| The detection failed this can be due to a corrupted installation d
System Profile: Dell Latitude D800 P4 2.8 GHz w/ 2GB RAM Memory 20 GB of Free Space remaining on the OS drive. Windows XP Pro SP3 Office 2007 Enterprise Edition I received a balloon notificatin that updates were ready for my computer from the Microsoft Updates site. The updates installation completed with the error that the following updates could not be installed: Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808) Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB955936) Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB956828) Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB958439) I downloaded each one of the above updates and tried to install manually and each one failed with the following error: "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database." I did the following steps to resolve the error to no avail: 1. Used the Office Diagnostics Tool 2. Ran "sfc /scannow". 3. Removed Office 2007 from Add/Remove Programs. 4. Used the Windows Cleanup Utility to also manually uninstall Office 2007. 5. Renamed a registry key from "Updates" to "Updates_old". 6. Created a network installation share on a file server with the Office 2007 distribution files and ran the installation from there. I did a complete install. I am still receiving the error despite my dilligent efforts to resolve this. I need help from the Microsoft Technical Community. Please advise. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

-- All the updates that are not installing applies to OFFICE COMPATIBILITY PACK as well. Why would you need Office Compatibility Pack to open office 2007 files, when you have "office 2007 FPP". It is used ONLY by older version office programs to open 2007 files. (Its not going to help you in creating files for others who don’t have 2007 on their comp or to open 2007 files on their comp). To resolve your issue, uninstall that and restart, you will never be prompted for updates. Or else it may still prompt for KB955936 KB956828 KB958439 as it applies for office 2007 as well. Go ahead and install it, it will install fine, as your office 2007 doesn’t have any issue, its just that Office Compatibility Pack is corrupt. If you really need Office Compatibility Pack (suppose if u still have any older version of office programs on this computer), uninstall and reinstall Office Compatibility Pack and then try installing all 4 updates, or install above 3 before installing Office Compatibility Pack and then the remaining 1. On this page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en It says "The update will install properly if either of the following are true: The 2007 Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 (SP1) is currently installed. (Recommended) The 2007 Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 (SP1) is not currently installed." If that is INCORRECT, perhaps those instructions need to be removed. Yes?
