help! I deleted the activation wizard, cannot install 2007 softwa.

I bought a new Office 2007 Home and Student today to install it on my Windows XP based laptop. Let me tell you that I was using the trial version of office until today. Now while trying to install the new office I bought, by mistakenly I deleted the activation wizard. Now what should I do ? Can I uninstall the trial one to install the one I bought ?

I personally don’t have much idea about this but I got a very useful article that will help you in this case. According to the same, Yes you will need to uninstall the existing one and then install the one you bought. Here’s the steps you need to follow.

    • First of all you will need to download Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and save it somewhere on your desktop.
    • Now open task manager and kill all unwanted processes. Make sure nothing is running in the background.
    • Now install Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and launch it.
    • Select your Office 2007 and click OK remove. Make sure to remove each and every program associated with Office.
    • Once removed, exit the clean up utility.
    • Now go to Start and click Run. Type regedit and press Enter to launch the registry editor.
    • Navigate to the following locations and delete the files mentioned below:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office
    • Now quit registry, launch Windows Explorer, go to tools and set “show hidden files and folders”
    • Now located each of the file mentioned below:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Office
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Outlook
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Publisher
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office
    C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate12
    • Now open temporary folder by typing “%Temp%” in the Start > Run box.
    • Go to Desktop and empty Recycle Bin as well.
    • Now search for the following files and folders and deleted MAPI:

    C:\Windows\system32\mapi32.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\mapisvc.inf
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Msmapi
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi
    • Now search for Opa12.dat file and delete the same as well
    • Finally reboot your system and start installing the Office 207 you bought.

if you are concerned about the activation because of the deleted activation wizard, you should check out the knowledge database about Activating Office 2007 from here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/he...001233434.aspx
