Error 1311. Source File not found: F:\SKU1CA.CAB

As my titles says, that is the error am getting while trying to install Office Home and Student 2007 on Windows XP. This is the new CD I bought yesterday itself from EBay with product key.

What I did is I inserted the CD in my DVD drive, I got option “Customize and Upgrade’, I chose upgrade and installation started. But when It reaches about 40%, the setup gets stuck with Error “Error 1311. Source File not found: F:\SKU1CA.CAB. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it’ along with two Options and that are Whether RETRY or CANCEL.

Though I keep on clicking Retry, it keeps up coming with the same error and when I click cancel, setup quits. Please help me with some working fix for this.

Those files use to be right there on your installation CD but due to some problem setup wont read it and hence you keep getting errors saying about missing files. Anyways, there is an Article in Microsoft Knowledge base with exactly the same error code and few solutions. It might help you, check this:

Before installing this Office Suite yesterday, were you having any other Office version installed on this system ? Did you removed it properly, I mean it leftover files and registry entries ? If not, that is why the problem occurred. You must always remove earlier office suites or Trail version completely from the system using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, restart the pc and then install the purchased one.

You do it now as well. Just download the Utility from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218 and delete every file you see related to ‘Office 12’ and then try to install the new one.

Thanks for the suggestion friend. But I wonder why Microsoft don’t make it official and put a dialog box in all office versions with a message to remove previous versions instead of giving this annoying and time wasting errors while installation.
