Bad Files Icons, can't Install or Re-install

I recently installed Office 2007 on a new computer runnign Vista
Business OS. About a day later all of the icons on my Word and Excel
files disappeared and a generic icon now appears in their place. All
the applications still work fine, and double clicking one of these
files still opens the appropriate Office application for editing.

I finanlly beame annoyed enough with this situation to try to see if
an uninstall/re-install would fix the problem. I cannot uninstall
through the control panel. I get the message,"Setup could not find
any available products to install, please contact your system
administrator"

I've tried to run setup from the CD and after the splash screen I get
the message "Setup has stopped working. Aproblem has caused setup to
stop working correctly". Below is the text of the error log file
SetupExe(20071003092719754).log

Anyone have any ideas to help on either the icon issue or the setup
issue. Help will be appreciated.

RE: Bad Files Icons, can't Install or Re-install

You can use the following KB to manually remove office 2007.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us

Then reinstall.
