Office 2003 Setup cannot continue because the installation source has been corrupted

I am running a Windows 2000 operating system on my pc and I have recently purchased a Office 2003 copy. When I am trying to install it on the same OS by clicking the setup.exe, I can get to the screen where we have to enter the license key but after clicking next, I get an error message that says "Office Setup cannot continue because the installation source has been
corrupted". Does anyone have any idea how do i deal with this situation?

Can you let us know what version of Service Pack is installed in your Windows 2000 system? I have found out that the Office 2003 IIRC version can be only installed with Service Pack 3 or later installed on a Windows 2000 operating system. You will need to check the same and incase if you have missed out then please update to the latest SP and then install the office 2003 suite. You can check the list of system requirements required for the installation of Office 2003 from here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822129

Also, incase if your operating system is corrupted by some of the system files or maybe if it is not registered then you wont be able to update your pc as well. And that is the reason why Office 2003 might not be installing because of this problem because of the failed or missing updates in your computer that might be specifically with the msxml or the .net framework. However, you can try to re-register some of the different dll files that Windows update requires to run and to do the same click on Start and then go to Run and then type the following command and press enter:
    • regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    • regsvr32 wups.dll
    • regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    • regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    • regsvr32 atl.dll
    • regsvr32 msxml3.dll

Remember to press enter after every command that you type, so that every dll file gets registered. After that restart the system and simply use the windows update to upgrade to service pack 3.

Even I was facing the same problem but i used the above method to solve the issue. I updated my Windows 2000 with Service pack 4 and then installed the office 2003 version on it smoothly. But soon after uninstalled the office 2003 standard version because I didnt like it and then install the Office 2003 Premium Edition which comes with greater feature as compared to the previous.
