| installer cannot update 1 or more protected windows files ultimate 2007 & is downloaded from a ms(?) site; price is $59.95. The installer stops & say it "cannot update one or more protected windows files". I see in the log that the apparent (to me) last installed group is called "RosebudMUI.msi"; on the log: "rosebudmui.msi errorcode: 1603(0x643)". Anyone able to install the ms office ultimate 2007? Bad file, ms install bug, whoever created the file messed up? One other thing, I did see an error regarding publisher in that a file is invalid because it has a name longer than 20 characters. Hope ms fixes asap as I allowed the sending of the error report to ms 3 times. Also I don't have any version of ms office installed on this relative new updated system. The only office product currently installed is wordperfect office x3. Running xp pro w/sp2, |

You have a spyware on your system. I suggest scan your system with MS Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx) and/or other free spyware softwares. For $59.95 you get what you paid for. The price you paid is well below the cheapest you can get from Amazon Hope this helps. student wrote: > > I got the "ultimate steal" for students yestarday; it is the ms office > ultimate 2007 & is downloaded from a ms(?) site; price is $59.95. > > The installer stops & say it "cannot update one or more protected > windows files". another paid m$ shill......... I don't think the msg is useless & the price for office ultimate 2007 is correct. You should see your own ms press releases & check the "www.theultimatesteal.com"; office ultimate 2007 was available in Australa in Aug. Too arrogant to check your sources? | RE: installer cannot update 1 or more protected windows files
Don't listen to obnoxious ANONYMOUS jerks. I'm familiar with student pricing, but whether you paid 1, 10, 100 or 1,000 dollars for Office, the point is you need help. I'm having a similar problem in that Office crashed one too many times (and yes, we paid bucketloads for all our copies of Office blah blah). It's now seeking out RosebudMUI.msi, and I suspect the last time I ran Disk Cleanup, it killed it. I wish I had more information for you. But what you might try doing is installing Office with a bare minimum of programs (a "Custom" install), then re-running setup and doing "Add/Remove Components" one by one until all have installed successfully. If I find more information, I'll post it here. | RE: installer cannot update 1 or more protected windows files
Looks like there's more than one RosebudMUI.msi--my installation of Office points to one per program (e.g., 1 for Access, 1 for Word, etc.). You can also find it on the Office CD inside the .cab file "RbudLR.cab" Microsoft has an Office Diagnostic Tool that tells me that in my case, it's a matter of needing to download the Software Update for Web Folders to continue: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en I would suggest being sure you have downloaded all required/critical Windows Updates for your machine before installing Office, but take my advice with a block of salt, since I'm not Microsoft Tech Support. ;) The Crash Diagnostic Tool for XP can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/923800 But I don't think it'll help much with your setup problems--this just kicked in because my already-installed product had crashed. Don't worry. Just go to control panel, select add remove programs, select add/remove windows components, install internet information services. This is enough. Just restart your PC and install Office 2007. This will solve your problem. Enjoy! |
