| Office 2007 Ultimate Repair fails w/ "Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working" hopefully get OneNote to show the OneNote Mobile notebook which it is not doing even though I can sync in general just fine. For some reason the OneNote sync options are not checked and are grayed out so I cannot check them on both the PC and PPC. Problem is when I run repair I get a the message below that it has failed. My copy of Office 2097 is legitimate, has been working, still is working but I can't run repair or remove OneNote so as to try to fix the OneNote problem thru repair or re-install. Help! Dave Here is the msg I get: "Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working" and this event log item: Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 8/2/2007 2:02:01 AM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: DavesDesktop Description: Faulting application setup.exe_Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper, version 12.0.4518.1014, time stamp 0x4541767b, faulting module OSETUP.DLL, version 12.0.4518.1014, time stamp 0x454176a8, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x002768b0, process id 0x163c, application start time 0x01c7d4c8beb4404f. | Re: Office 2007 Ultimate Repair fails w/ "Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working"
Well I got lucky after several hours messing with this. I ran setup from the MSDN DVD and repair and change features worked fine from there but there is some sort of bug why both failed from the control panel "Program and Features" menu. And after repairing rebooting, and removing Grove and rebooting, then OneNote just started working and showed the PPC mobile filder just fine and I can sync back and forth no problem and did NOTHING to either PC or PPC OneNote. Why this didn't work right off and why repair did not work without using the DVD I have no idea but it was very very upsetting that I had to go thru all this wondering what was trashed on my system I put so much time into building. Hopefully someone at MSFT will look into this so no one else has to suffer this. |

I'm having the same problem. I think "osetup.dll" must be the problem. Has something else installed a file with that name somehow in the path? The thread, Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working has the suggestion that trying to repair by using the DVD (rather than "Add/Remove Programs", "Change") might work. |
