Why Does Outlook 2007 Need A Default Gateway??????

My exchange service is local and hence the NIC ha sno default gateway address but still my Outlook 2007 is unable to connect until a default gateway is specified. No success even if it is a false randomly chosen number. Can anyone please help me disabling the NIC configuration checking? I tried searching it on few websites, none of them worked for me.

Re: WHY DOES OUTLOOK 2007 NEED A DEFAULT GATEWAY??????

Am not sure about this but may bet the design flaw in Outlook related to assuming the user may want to use it with "remote mail". But according to a KB Article it is caused because of Outlook 2007 client computer does not have a default gateway configured. Here is the solution to fix it:
  • Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  • Locate and then click the following subkey:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC
  • On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  • Type DefConnectOpts, and then press ENTER.
  • Right-click DefConnectOpts, and then click Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  • Exit Registry Editor.
