Outlook 2007 crashes constantly - please HELP

This is now taking away with all my patience. I cannot just run
Outlook 2007 in my laptop.
The situation is:
1. Had Office Professional 2003 installed earlier. Uninstalled that
properly.
2. Installed Office Enterprise 2007. Installation completed without
error.
3. Execute Outlook. First time it runs perfectly. No Issues.
4. Restart the machine.
5. OUTLOOK ALWAYS CRASHES saying "Microsoft Office Outlook has
encountered a problem and needs to close." - this is a never-ending
loop.

Have tried:
1. Uninstalled full Office and re-installed again.
2. Uninstalled only Outlook and re-installed again.
3. Tried repairing Office and Outlook.
4. After some googling, found some messages that Add-Ins may result
this error - hence un-installed a number of my important softwares
like Adobe Reader and Writers.
5. Uninstalled Microsoft Project and Visio as well.
6. Uninstalled full Office and re-installed again in separate folder/
drive.
ALL IN VAIN.

Some other Info:
By roaming here-and-there, I found another strange error in Control
Panel -> Mail snap-in.
When I try to create a new Data File or new Mail Profile it throws as
error:
"An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows
\system32\shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\MLCFG32.DLL", @0"

I've been trying to resolve this since last week... just dont know now
what to do... no relevant and useful information found in Google as
well...

Open Outlook via Start, Run, "outlook /safe". If it opens, go into
Tools, Trust Center, Add-Ins, and disable all add-ins.
Then try opening it normally.
What operating system is running on your laptop?

Do you still face the same problem.. ??
because i am facing the same problem on Dell Vostro1000

I had an OP answer a post from 3 yrs ago just last week. Unbelievable at times

i noticed this message shortly after switching the theme of my desktop from windows classic to windows vista. experimentation has shown that when in windows classic the error does not occur. however, when the desktop theme is in windows vista mode the error shows up frequently.
another factor may have been that i recently installed silverlight for netflix viewing.
keeping the windows classic theme seems to work for me, hope it works for you as well

I am not sure if you found a solution but, why don't you try loading Otlook 2007 or Office 2007 disc and running the install. Once it loads click on the repair option and take a go at it. That should work.

If it does not, depending on if you were receiving a ton of emails, then backup your .pst file and uninstall outlook/office, reboot, and reinstall.

Sorry about that guys. I was simply responding to a question posted last year about outlook 2007 crashing. Noticed the post was incomplete and wanted to add my two sense into the topic.

That is another problem - the MS News servers hold posts for approx 90
days - so one from last year won't even BE here....

Who are you talking to and about what?

Please note:
This is NOT a chat room and although you think you are posting to a forum
run by Techarena - you are actually posting to a global Usenet Newsgroup.
Techarena forums leach off the Microsoft News Servers in order to make them
seem far busier than they really are. Those of us (the vast majority) who
use the MS News server rather than Techarena forums have NO IDEA what you
are talking about.

You will get a far better experience if you use a newsreader and subscribe
to these groups directly, rather than through TechArena.

Outlook 2007, the latest version of Microsoft Office Outlook, is generally considered as the reliable and safer version as compared to its former counterparts. But, Outlook users still observe frustrating experiences with Outlook 2007. Outlook 2007 might crash randomly while you are performing general tasks like sending or receiving emails, starting or existing Outlook and others. One of the typical causes for Outlook to behave in this manner is PST file corruption, which leaves you with no other option than to restore from backup or use PST Recovery tool (if backup is invalid or absent).

There can be a wide variety of reasons causing Outlook 2007 to crash. Some of them are listed below:

* Outdated Outlook installation
* Add-ins or extensions issues
* Problematic Outlook profile
* Corrupted Outlook installation
* Damaged Outlook data file (PST)
* Damaged Windows profile
* System specific problems

Solution

To fix Outlook 2007 crashing issues, you should consider these methods:

* You need to ensure if the crash occurs when you perform a particular task, for example while opening a particular email message or meeting on calendar. If this is the case, you can perform steps like deleting the specific item or doing a similar task as per the cause.
* You can try updating Outlook installation with the latest cumulative updates available
* Microsoft Outlook provides different command-line switches that allow you to start Outlook after cleaning few application settings. Based on the specific problem in existence, you can use these switches to troubleshoot. For example, if crash occurs when reminders are fired, you can use /cleanreminders switch to clean and regenerate them. Whereas, if issue is related to invalid profile keys, you can use /cleanprofile switch.
* Outlook installation might be damaged. So, you can try reinstalling Microsoft Outlook 2007.
* Starting Outlook using /safe mode allows you to start it without loading many of the customizations, Exchange Client Extensions, reading pane, customized toolbars, and COM add-ins, Form regions, macros etc. So, you can use it to start Outlook. If you find that Outlook doesn’t crash when you start it in /safe mode, you need to check the list of disabled items to see if any of them relate to the type of kind of crash you suffer. If this is the case, you can disable, remove or rename the item, as per the case.
* To check if the issue is Outlook profile specific, you can create a test profile containing no email accounts. Since it doesn’t have any email account, it will not send and receive any email messages. You can try adding the existing PST file to see if PST is not damaged. It will create a PIM profile. If it doesn’t crashes, you should continue working with this new profile.
* You can try to test the new Outlook profile with your email accounts as all the times, Outlook profile might not be the issue.
* If Outlook crashes after adding PST, the file might be damaged. Thus, you need to repair it using Inbox Repair Tool or alternatively by using commercial PST Repair tools.
* If Outlook crashes after trying a new profile, you should try creating and using a new Windows profile. If problem gets solved, you should keep continuing work with this new profile and delete the earlier one.
* If testing through new Windows profile doesn’t help, the issue could be machine-related. It could occur due to problems like faulty RAM, damaged files, wrong data in HKEY_Local_Machine hive, incompatible software or faulty Windows. So to check this behavior, you can perform steps like using Outlook on a different system, checking Office installation, performing Windows clean boot, replacing the corrupted RAM and other similar steps.

Re: Outlook 2007 crashes constantly - please HELP

I recently had this exact issue.

I reloaded my PC with a fresh HDD & OS load.

After fighting with the crashes to get my email accounts in before each next crash... Outlook would open and begin it's download.. Then BAM.. I'd have about 45 to 75 seconds of working time with Outlook before each crash.

Reporting and Diagnostics came up with nothing, nor did my quest for knowledge about this issue.

It worked perfectly on my previous OS load (XP Pro SP3), and on the same machine.. so why the change with a fresh OS load (same) and now it's crashing? I tried repairing, and all sorts of cool techy stuff with no success...

I decided that it was time to go hunting for software that wasn't on my previous OS load that I've installed onto the new load...

I discovered that ADAWARE installed an email security module without my knowledge... I didn't use ADAWARE before, and thought I'd give it a try on this load.. however.. I figured that its email security feature was interfering with Outlook somehow.. It was worth removing as an experiment...

When I removed ADAWARE from my system (completely to be sure) and rebooted, the persistant Outlook 2007 crashsing came to a stop!

Take a look at the installed fonts and make sure Helvetica is not installed. If it is remove Helvetica and your problem should go away.

Re: Outlook 2007 crashes constantly - please HELP

My computer Dell M6500 Precision Workstation - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit - 8core - 8GB HS Ram] was fine, then it crashed(Blue Screen) because of my stupid video card. Outlook was open when that happened.

Now when I open outlook it opens fine, but after about 10 to 30 seconds of downloading email I get a outlook as stopped working and must close message.

Everytime. After trying for like 10 times it finally said upon crash: the add-in snagit has caused outlook to crash several times if you have seen this before you might want to disable the add-in. do you wish to disable the add-in? so I clicked Yes, but that did not fix it, it still crashes, but only when downloading email.

If I click work offline as soon as I start it, then it will stay up the whole time.

I ran the outlook repair tool and it said that it had found errors and repaired them. still, it crashes, and still only when downloading email.

Can someone please help me? I have tried everything, I have not installed any new software in 1 or 2 weeks and outlook is always on, if my computer is on, outlook is on and never a problem with outlook, like this anyways.

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Outlook 2007 crashes constantly - please HELP

Hi ukndoit,

Can you try to update to V10 and see if it helps you out a bit or not. But if it crashes "reliably" then it would be a bug that perhaps got fixed in the later version. I'm not sure that's the case though as I don't use add-ins. You can have both versions installed at the same time so you can use the 30 day free trial to see if it works for you.

Re: Outlook 2007 crashes constantly - please HELP

Ok, I finally figured out what it was.

I have CA Internet Securities 2010 installed
it has a built in spam and virus scanner, after my computer crashed because of the video card it must have corrupted it. I am going to uninstall it then re-install, hopefully that will fix it.

Just thought I'd let everyone know in case they have the same Security suite so they know how to fix it.

Coincedentally, here is how I disabled it so I can get to me email for now:
Windows 7 -> click start
click into the search for programs on the bottom or click run
then type in:
outlook /safe
when you see it above right click on it and click Run as Administrator
then quickly click -> Tools -> Trust Center -> Add-ins
then uncheck the CA Anti-Spam field
click ok, then it should not crash anymore.

HTH,
Richard
