| Office Professional 2007 install
I attended the Tampa "ready for a new day launch 2007" last week and received the necessary keys for free copies of Office Professional 2007 and Office Groove 2007. I had previously installed Office Professional 2007 (BETA) which was working fine. When I returned home and tried to uninstall the beta version it wouldn't uninstall so I had to use the manual proceedures in "support.microsoft.com/kb/928218" to uninstall it. I was then able to install office pro 2007 but when I try to run Outlook I get error 1605. I have downloaded the installer cleanup tool but it looks like it might decommission many of my installed programs and gives no indication that it will do anything to any left over beta information. Can anyone help me get around this problem? |

I have the identical problem! Attended Birmingham launch yesterday - got full product key - downloaded - uninstalled 2007 Beta - errors every time telling me the beta is not uninstalled. MICROSOFT - ARE YOU LISTENING? Your beta uninstall has trashed my machine so that I'm unable to install full product. I called Microsoft at the suggestion of the TS2 technician and was told that telephone support for the product will not begin until January 31. I have not attempted the manual uninstall referenced in your post and will do so now. What are you complaining about? You installed a beta product that has a beta setup program on your production system despite the warning that MS posted on the download page and in violation of the beta license agreement (which states that you need explicit permission from MS to use the beta in a production environment). MS is providing the manual removal steps so you have a way of completely removing the beta without having to reformat your harddrive.. BTW, the error message you receive is most likely not due to a failed uninstall routine. It is more likely the case that you missed to remove a component of the beta. The two most likely candidates are the PDF/XPS add-in and the Expression Web Beta. See the appropriate error message on my RTM issues page linked below. Thank you for your suggestion. However, your assumption that I was using the Beta in a production environment illegally was incorrect. This is my home computer that I am having troubles with and not a business computer. "Patrick Schmid [MVP]" wrote: > What are you complaining about? Further, after I rerun the installer program and select repair and let the program try to correct the problem it still gives me the msg that it can't open InfoPath because of error 1605 and then trys to restart outlook in the safe mode and gives me the same error and then it asks if I want it to start "Detect and Repair" and when I click yes it trys to install Office Groove not run detect and repair. How do I get around this and get Outlook to work? "Patrick Schmid [MVP]" wrote: > What are you complaining about? Got it to run by manually uninstalling four components throught msiexec that were not visible in add/remove, (leftovers). As far as the intemperate remarks by the boob above, my system is my own personal and not for mission critical applications. Nonetheless, I DO NOT EXPECT TO HAVE MY MACHINE EATEN BY INCOMPETENT PROGRAMMING. I eventually stopped trying to keep drilling down to all the registry hacks as there are hundreds of leftover references to Office12 even after uninstall. I do have Outlook 12 running although Business Contact Manager database creation failed. I downloaded the trial but used the key I was provided at the launch 2007 to install the Pro version. "Patrick Schmid [MVP]" wrote: > I am not sure which state your system is in. Are you willing to completely reformat your hard drive and reinstall your Windows and all your programs from scratch? If no, then your home machine is not a pure test machine, but a production machine, and hence my comments applies. It doesn't matter whether it is used for mission critical apps or not. Beta software has bugs. Period. That is what the word beta implies. It's the price you paid for using it. > I eventually stopped trying to keep drilling down to all the registry hacks > as there are hundreds of leftover references to Office12 even after uninstall. All it takes is reading the manual removal step KB. You can get rid of all traces of Office 12 in about 30 mins or less using those steps. Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Diagnostics (Tools), Publisher 2007 all load and run. Diagnostics reports no problems. Outlook and Groove won't run. When I try to run Outlook I get the following: "Microsoft Office Outlook can't start Microsoft InfoPath. Microsoft Office Outlook can't install the necessary files due to Windows Installer Error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." I believe that I have removed all of 2007 (Beta) but it still appeares in the add/remove program list. All of 2003 has been removed except for web components. It also reports that Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies and Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components are still there.
