| Office 2007 Beta Blocking Install of Office 2007 Trial!
I have uninstalled the Office 2007 Beta successfully, but am still blocked from installing the Trial version. The Beta did NOT include the Technical Refresh, which I never installed. I have uninstalled all Beta program components (that I could find), rebooted, etc., and still can't install the Trial because I keep getting the "must remove Beta" msg. I have even cleaned out the Registry of all references to the Beta, and to Office altogether, but still "no go." Is there a switch that could force the install of the final version of Office 2007? Any other suggestions? Desperate! I really don't want to reformat my HD! Thanks! |

See my RTM issues page. There is a section dedicated to this problem. My bet is that you still have the beta PDF output add-in or Expression Web installed. I Patrick, I had the same problem, and after wasting a lot of time working on the problem, and getting no help from Microsoft, I went into system tools and did a restore to the system back to prior to the Beta install.. I am very disappointed that Microsoft does not have the old files/fragments removed during the 2007 install. It's pretty evident that Microsoft did not do the proper pre-release testing prior to release. Good Luck Gene Bammes Patrick Schmid [MVP] wrote: > See my RTM issues page. | Re: Office 2007 Beta Blocking Install of Office 2007 Trial!
I installed the Office 2007 beta in two virtual machines, and on one physical machine. I uninstalled it from both virtual machines without a hitch and installed the Office 2007 trial. On the physical machine, however, nothing I've done works. I uninstalled the beta just as I'd done in the virtual machines, only here I got the "can't continue" message when I tried to install the Trial version. I followed all of your directions, I cleared out Registry entries, removed physical folders, and so on. I wonder how most newer users would ever remove all the Registry entries without ruining their computer? I was able to reinstall Office 2003. IF you have any ideas of something else I can try I'd love to hear it. Thanks. Michael E. Callahan "Patrick Schmid [MVP]" wrote: > See my RTM issues page. I agree, newer users probably shouldn't install betas, but I'm sure many do. I, on the other hand, have been in computers for 29 years. Yes, I still get the error message as if I'd done nothing at all. Very puzzling, very frustrating. | Re: Office 2007 Beta Blocking Install of Office 2007 Trial!
It seems more like the Office 2007 RTM installer still never progressed any further than the 'Beta' version of the new installer architecture since it is so preciously fragile. Would it kill Microsoft to release an update that simply takes care of their stupid mess in this area? Why defend them on the inexcusable? Beta is supposed to mean 'almost ready', not 'watch out, you might just poison your system and cripple it'. That is what we would expect from Alpha-test or pre-alpha software. In this case Microsoft Beta = potential destruction, pre-Alpha Microsoft RTM = Beta for the rest of the industry. Post SP2 = release-safe and free of liability to integrators Even if only test systems are involved, we still don't expect to have to nuke them and start over just because Microsoft's programmers decided to get lazy or their marketing/management people got so crazy that they pushed yet another half-baked installation architecture out the door too soon. Please explain how you can or anyone at Microsoft can justify their RTM installer not taking care of this stupid issue rather than just cleaning it up! Since they are DETECTING the problem, they ought to also be CORRECTING the problem, not just aborting! | Re: Office 2007 Beta Blocking Install of Office 2007 Trial!
It seems we have no recourse but to do just that even though we are in the middle of testing Office 2007 for interactions with other software. That works fine for our test lab environment, where we know we are going to eat the time. But we're not going to waste our time/money to bandaid all of the problems that distributing Office 2007 evals is going to cause. What a wreck of a product roll-out where those who would like to push the new features of Office 2007 out to as many customers as possible end up utterly disgusted by a disastrous new installer architecture. The developers must have 'inhaled'.
