Office 2007 Fails to install AMD64, Citrix PS4x64

This is the first error in the MSI Setup log of the Office 2007 ProPlus using
Volume License Key (open value):

>>>>>>>>

Error: Failed to install product: D:\MSOCache\All
Users\{90120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}-D\ProPlusWW.msi ErrorCode:
1603(0x643).
>>>>>>>>

It then wants to roll back and uninstall. This is a new 2003R2 x64 server,
on a Tyan AMD64 DualCore, Dual CPU, running Citrix PS4 x64. There was no
other app installed prior to this (no beta, no 2003 office), have tried
installing thru RDP & VNC to server. Files are the downloaded ones. Tested
same install on a 2003R2 Virtual terminal server and it worked fine so s/w is
good, code is good.

Applied an MSI x64 patch per MS support doc, that did not help, ran MSI
Cleanup, same thing. Have tried half dozen times - all with same result.
Tried just installing word or excel, still fails near the end of the install.

Is this not compatible with x64 or Citrix or some patch causing problems?

RJ,

is it possible that you got a Beta Build of Office12 on this machine? I got
the same error message and I had to wipe everything on this machine smelling
like Office12 before I was able to install the RTM.

Alex - this is a brand new server build - nothing on it.

Re: Office 2007 Fails to install AMD64, Citrix PS4x64

Hi Ron,

The original 1704 error can come from several causes. One is that a restart wasn't done or was deferred from the same (or another)
product that was being installed or updated (such as an automatic update from using the MS Update site or products) and that update
may have posted an 'restart pending' flag to this registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

If you're sure that this isn't the case, then you may want to try deleting that key then trying running Setup.exe from the Office
2007 CD again. You may also want to try running pre-installing the \MSOCache (Local Install Source) folder first using the
procedure in the Office 2007 Resource Kit at http://microsoft.com/office/ork

There is also information there on installing for terminal server.

Re: Office 2007 Fails to install AMD64, Citrix PS4x64

Bob - there was no registry key there, there is no update waiting to install.

Ran the precache setup from the RK KB - made no difference, same error
during install. There is no doc on Terminal server installs - only a
placeholder for future docs.

Why is 2007 having so many issues installing - 2003 never had any problem
installing. Any more things I can look at?

Re: Office 2007 Fails to install AMD64, Citrix PS4x64

Hi R.J.,

Office 2007 has different limits for Terminal Server installation. Only Enterprise editions with Volume License Keys are supported
for Terminal Server.

Did the precache work, or was that where you had the error message?
Did you extract the ISO image contents to an Office Network Installation point on your hard drive and then run setup from there?

Can you email me a zipped set of the latest run logs from
Start=>Run %temp% ?

Re: Office 2007 Fails to install AMD64, Citrix PS4x64

I have the proper VLK (it does install to a plain terminal server virtual,
32bit).

Precache worked as I see the MSOCache folder and contents. Yes, setup the
network install.

I will zip them up & email.

Thanks.

Ron

Bob - just checking if you had a chance to review my zip of the logs in which
I still cannot get this installed ?
