Microsoft Office Document Image Writer

Microsoft Image writer was installed on my PC when I bought it. It was
removed and I would like to get it back. I have gone to Add/remove
programs and chose Microsoft Office 2003 and then selected "Change
which features are installed or remove specific features". I then
selected "Choose advanced customization of applocations" which led me
to Office Tools and then Microsoft Office document Imaging. From here
I do not know what to do to reinstall it.

Once you have found Image Writer under Advanced, just right-click and select
'Run from My PC' then OK, OK and Office Setup will then add the writer and
close.

I did that and nothing happened. Do you have any other ideas?

If nothing happened, are you sure it isn't already installed and listed in
Start, Printers and Faxes dialog?

Re: Microsoft Office Document Image Writer

Uninstall and then reinstall the MODI printer driver feature
using your Office 2003 CD. Instructions courtesy of Windows MVP
Carey Frisch:
1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office
application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced
customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of
"Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you
were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

Re: Microsoft Office Document Image Writer

I don't see it under printers and faxes. I lost it when some tech
person came in and thought they were doing me a favor by deleting
printers they thought I wasn't using.

I suggest that you follow Mary's advice in going to the Add/Remove Programs
and uninstalling it first. Let setup complete fully and then go through the
reverse procedure to reinstall it. We guess that it is probably installed
but the Techie has deleted the icons: an uninstall and reinstall should
recover the situation.

It worked. Thanks so much for your help.

Don't thank me, thank Carey... Thank you for posting your success. It is
appreciated.

Re: Microsoft Office Document Image Writer

Hallo Mary
I followed to the letter your instructions and after completing went into printers and faxe and it wasnt listed, however I had installed a generic printer on the advice of another forum and to change to driver by going to properties, advanced and ports but there is no listing of the image writer there either, I also lost all of my fonts except device fonts, the fonts are still installed. I am using office 2003 small business edition, I would be most grateful for your kind help.
