Office 2003 Pro: Install Error - 1904: Cannot Register MSRCLR40.dl

Hi,

I am trying to install Office 2003 Professional, on to a Windows XP Embedded
for POS machine, but always recieve an error. If I ignore the error, the
installation appears to complete successfully, but when I use Outlook it
fails to work. The other Office components (Word, Powerpoint) appear to work,
but I have not conducted in depth testing.
If I try to do a manual component registration, that is use 'regsvr32' it
returns the error that the specified module does not exist, but the file does
exist in the specified location.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any assistance,
Betty.

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 -- Error 1904. Setup cannot
register module C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\1033\MSRCLR40.DLL.
If you click 'Cancel' or 'Ignore', run Setup again and reinstall or repair
your Office installation. If problem persists, contact your Information
Technology department for assistance.

This looks like an MDAC issue per KB. Try installing MDAC from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...dataaccess.asp

Re: Office 2003 Pro: Install Error - 1904: Cannot Register MSRCLR4

Hi Gyorgy,

I tried installing MDAC 2.8 (MDAC 2.8 SP1 is not supported on Windows XP
POS). Then attempted to install Office 2003 again. I recieved the same error
message.

Any ideas on what else could be wrong?

Regards,
Betty

Looking at the date of your post, I am confident you are no longer interested in the solution, but I will post it here for archival purposes. You need to first copy MSREPL40.DLL from a working system running Windows 2000, XP or later into the C:\Windows\System32 directory on your Windows XP Embedded system. Then try reinstalling Office 2003.
