Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Saw other posts regarding this and followed all the suggestions including
buring a CD. I had installed The Beta on top of my 3003 install and
everything worked fine until Outlook got flaky. I have uninstalled both
versions and gotten error messages during the uninstall but both seem to have
at least disappeared from the ADD/Remove Programs and Start>Program list.
After running the %temp% here is the log file:

RE: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

So, if you are having a problem reinstalling office 2007 (the installer
crashes right after entering your key number) here is how you fix the problem.
Start…Run…Regedit
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Delivery\SourceEngine\Downloads
delete the following keys:

{30120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0015-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0016-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0018-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0019-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-001A-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-001B-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0044-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-006E-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C

Each of the GUIDs above correspond to a different office 2007 app, and
office 2007 itself.

Here is why you could not reinstall: The error was being caused by the LIS
(local installation source) not being where the registry said it should be.
The actual error (HResult: 0x80070002) means that the installer could not
find the files. If you delete the references to them in the registry then
the installer will not look for cached copies in the LIS during installation
and you will be able to push through with no problems.

Seems like the installer will glitch from time to time and leave these
entries behind. When the files from MSOcache are removed by the installer
and you try to reinstall, the installer is trying to load the cached files it
thinks exists. Because they do not exist, the installer throws an exception.

“Catalyst execution finished: 06/01/2006 19:49:58. Return code: 0.
Exception caught: HResultOnly.”

And you get the friendly “An error occurred during the installation and
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta) setup was unable to complete.”
Error message.

Good Luck

Ken,

You are a godsend. I have spent literally hours trying in vain to get
Office 2007 to install. Thank you for the info...it worked like a
charm. And also thank you for taking the time to troubleshoot this
problem and post your results, not many would.

Hi Ken

You've helped me in the past and I'm glad you're keeping up the good work.

I did as you told Gr8Bald1. My register does not contain the keys you
described. I removed 608 keys with the word 'office' in it.

Still I didn't manage to reinstall Office 7B2. I'm trying on my test server,
a 2003R2 installation.

Below is my dump.

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi Martin,

The GUIDs that Ken mentioned do not include the Word 'Office' in them (they use hex values) They are 0FF1CE [0(zero) FF 1(one) CE]

The registry cleaners you used may have disabled more than just Office.

(FWIW, to avoid some confusion. Office 2007 Beta 2 is Office version 12. MS Internet Explorer's beta is the one that is version
'7'.
(Office v7 was Office 95).

Did you delete the previous Office 2007 folder in the \Program Files area?

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi Bob

That's correct. I searched the register for his GUIDS and they were not there.

Yes, anything with the word 'office' got deleted, including folders.

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi Martin-

Reading your log dump it looks as if the LIS cache is fouled up.

Here is an easy way for you to check. Copy the key below (curley braces and
all) to the clip board

{30120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C

Run regedit...Hit the F3 key...put your cursor in the dialog box and type
CTRL+V to paste the contents into the find dialog. Click the find next
button. Let me know if you find anything. I'm thinking you should find the
key. If you do we will be able to fix things fairly simply.

I will get an e-mail ping when you reply to this message and will hopefully
be able to provide more assistance. If you do not find the registry value
using the find method I described above, please navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Delivery\SourceEngine\Downloads
using regedit and tell me what you find under the "download" key (It should
have a "+" next to the folder that should let you expand it. If not, just
click on the "download" folder and post what you have there.)

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi Ken

I found 6 keys with the string you sent. Four in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and two
in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

Should I delete them?

Regards,

Martin T

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi again Ken

I've given up to get Office 2007 installed on my Win Server 2003R2.

Instead, I installed it on my portable which has two partintions. The one is
XP home edition in my native tongue, Norwegian, and the other one is Win
Server 2003. And it worked fine. :-))

The only thing that didn't work was Windows Update. It insists that my time
and date is wrong. Could be since it expect an American time? This is a minor
annoyance. The local time is correct. Any ideas?

Then even my old FrontPage 2002 continued to function after Office 2007 was
installed. And it's in Norwegian. I'm pleased. I use this portable travelling
around the world, taking pictures using FrontPage making blogs.

I'm semiretired and enjoy fiddling with computers, something I've done since
1963.

And thank you very much for your patience and help. It's encouraging.
Particularly if you are a non-MS employee.

Kind regards and thank you

Martin T

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

HI Martain-
Yes, you should delete the ones in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE . You should repeat
the process for the following keys:

{30120000-0015-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0016-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0018-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0019-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-001A-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-001B-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-0044-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C
{30120000-006E-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}-C

These will be in your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive as was the last one. After
you complete the process for the remaining keys, Office 2k7 should be able to
install on your server.

>>The only thing that didn't work was Windows Update. It insists that my time

and date is wrong. Could be since it expect an American time? This is a minor
annoyance. The local time is correct. Any ideas?<<

Sorry martain, no idea about this issue.

>>And thank you very much for your patience and help. It's encouraging.

Particularly if you are a non-MS employee.

Kind regards and thank you<<

You are quite welcome. I try to help where I can.

Re: Office 2007 Beta Install/Uninstall failures

Hi Dico,

Good point, the 'tricky' thing to search for in the keys is that these particular keys are limited to 'hex' values (zero through
nine and A through F) and they used zero to look like an alphabetic O and a 1 to look like an I so the
search for 00F1CE (zero, zero, F, one, C, E)
rather than OFFICE)
should find things <g>
