    Office 2007 Installation

I have downloaded Office 2007 beta and trying to install it on my Windows XP SP2 desktop. Every time I start the installations, it goes file upto 15% and quits suddenly with an error message saying “Setup has encountered a problem and could not be installed”.

I even tried to install this in Safe Mode but yet the same problem. Any Advice how can I fix this and what is the actual cause of the problem ?

It is very difficult to find what could be the cause of this problem. But I think you can get it from temporary folder. Just go to the temp folder , sort it with details view and check the very latest Setup log file. See if there is any information listed.

    Re: Office 2007 Installation

I think that you are facing some compatibility problem. Let me tell you that Office 2007 Beta 2 only works with Windows Vista Build 5384 or higher than that. If your system is lesser than this build, it will show you Beta 2 but there are not actually beta 2. Please check about this on your system.

    Office 2007 install error

I’m using Windows Vista (build 5384), recently download Office 2007 beta from Microsoft Servers. When trying install the same, the installer says “setup could not find any available products to install”. Don’t know what could be the reason but extracted the downloaded file to a new folder and tried running the setup from there itself. But yet the same result.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions please?

    Re: Office 2007 install error

Most of the time extracting the files to a folder and running setup right form there helps us and the installation goes successfully. But it’s surprising as you said its not working yet. BTW, how did you extract the downloaded file? I guess you used some third-party programs that usually corrupts while extracting huge size of files. Anyways, just tryout the following steps for doing the same, hope it will work for you.

    • First of all go to Start > Programs > Accessories and launch Disk Cleanup. Select your internet files as well as the temporary folder and delete everything.
    • Now open Windows Explore and browse to the location where your Downloaded Office file is saved. Copy this location.
    • Now create a New Folder on your desktop and copy this location too.
    • NOTE: you have two locations saved, you will need it in next step.
    • Go to Start again and click RUN.
    • In the RUN box, you need to type the following command:
      drive:\firstlocation\downloadfilename.exe" /extract:"secondloacation"

That’s it. Once the extraction is successful, you will get a message with confirmation. Now open task manager and kill all unwanted processes, disable antivirus suites, and run the setup from there.

    Re: Office 2007 install error

Thanks a lot for the help buddy. I think the problem was with the extraction itself. I was doing it using Switch, but my vista was only extracting half of the files but saying extraction was successful and hence problem arising. Now I did as per your instructions and the installation went fine. Thank you again.

    Re: Office 2007 install error

    Hello Billie,

Me too stuck in very similar situation. When I tried to install the downloaded package, it was giving me error saying “The installation of this package failed” and now when I tried to extract it with your steps and installing it is saying me the following:

“Setup could not find any available products to install. Please contact your system administrator”

Is there any problem with the downloaded package itself ? Should I download it again ? Will that help me ?

    Re: Office 2007 install error

Well before I suggest to download you should be sure with two things, First you must be logged in as an Administrator and second you must have uninstalled all earlier office suites including TRAIL (if any) and then try to start the installation of new one. If you still getting the same problem, than yes, I think your download is corrupt or damaged. You should download it again.
