Can't uninstall trial version of office home and student 2007

I have a trail verson of office home and student 2007, but nothing happens
when I try to uninstall it! I have purchased a cd for office home and
student 2007 but when attempting to install it, I get a message saying that
setup encountered and error during installation and closes. How can I
uninstall the trail version and get past the error message during setup?
