microsoft office activation assistant for netbooks

I bought a samsung netbook and received a year of office 2007 home and
student with it. When i try and get the key for it it comes up with a http
401.2 error code, saying I don't have authority to access the page so I am
unable to get a code to activate my office suite. How can I fix this?

What do you mean "try and get the key for it"? The key is on a label, not a
website.

You either get a retail version with key or a 60 day trial, and not 'a year'

Mine does exactly the same and allegedly has a year of pre-paid trial. There is not a key on any label either.

Exactly the same problem. Samsung Netbook, it is 1-year-prepaid - trying to get the code results in the 401.2 error.

The servers are down. You can boot and use the trial version 25 times in the
meantime.

Yea exact same issue. 1 year-prepaid trial is not activation and is
bringing same error. Its kinda annoying because I only have 10
launches left before I have to activate.

The desktop link now hits a Microsoft 'Try or Buy site' which gives the
option for an outright license purchase or a 60 day free trial download. No
'1 year pre-paid activation feature' of any kind. Have we been sold short?

I got the same message: either buy the full product or download a 60-day
trial version. There is no option for the activation of my 1-year prepaid
version. looking for any help...

I have exactly the same problem. I hope that Samsung / Microsoft sort this
out soon before I run out of my 'free goes' before it no longer works. I will
feel very cheated if after buying the netbook with this in the description, I
am denied using it.

My new samsung netbook has exactly the same "1 year pre paid trial". I have
located the product key, but it tells me it is incorrect.... is this part of
the same problem?

Does anyone know when the problem will be solved ???

I also have the same problem - Samsung N140 says 1-year prepaid trial however no license key was shipped. Upon clicking on the desktop shortcut to activate, I get taken to a Try for 60 days or Buy.

You can boot and use Office 25 times while waiting for the activation servers
to come up.

The servers are being updated which is causing the return of this error
message. Please use the 25 boots for the trial and check back shortly.
Apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks for posting about this, guess I just wait until the servers are back up.

Especially for someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

So is the 1 year subscription worked out, or should we be looking for a
class action attorney?

How's the "Publisher" gig going anyway?

Whose servers? Anymore news on this? I have used all 25!

Not snippy at all. I was asking a question. the OP asked a question and I
was asking for clarification. And the gig is going just fine. thanks for
asking.

So no updates?

When I click the activation wizards I still only get two choices, buy or trial for 60 days.

in my view a 1 year pre paid trial means that you've paid for 1 year of office 2007 and this should be what you get.

Anyone had any joy contacting Samsung directly?

I have the same problem with my Samsung N140. Tried to call Samsung and they were unhelpful and said all software problems should be discussed with the software manufacturer not with Samsung, and all hardware problems should be referred to the place where the machine was bought. Typical. What exactly are they there to do then. Sit and tell people this all day?

My understanding is that Microsoft Office Prepaid is a different thing to the Office 60 day Trial. It it meant to come with a little card with a product key similair to the Windows one stuck to the underside of the computer. Typing it in should unlock the product for 1 year.

So, to the nice person from Microsoft who replied earlier, I think you need to understand your products better! Is there any news when this shambles will be sorted out?

New Samsung, same problem...

Did you get anywhere with Samsung?

I can't tell where this problem extends to. It is the same on my N140
bought 2 weeks ago from Amazon in the UK. The Amazon remedy seems to
go no further than sending the netbook back for a refund, which I
don't want to do as other software is now installed and personalised.

I get the impression that this problem also applies to the USA?

I don't know how to deal with it, except through Samsung, as they must
be responsible for what they have loaded on to their product before
shipping.

I just got the same laptop and am having the exact same problem - where is
the product key??

Is this "one year prepaid online" business all rubbish?

Having a look around in some messageboards it looks as if Samsung blames MS for turning the activation page off. It would be nice to know who is responsible for this nasty surprise (a main reason for choosing the Samsung was the one year trial) to resolve the situation.

Honestly I do feel misled as the box does not include what I paid for.

We've had the same problem with a Samsung N140 bought yesterday for my girlfriend (£229 from Carphone Warehouse, very good price!). I actually had an N140 for my birthday back in September 09 when they first came out, and I registered my Office 1 year trial while in the US at the end of October 09. I used the icon on the desktop and I remember the product key being already present and just 'clicking next'. My free 1 year is still running now without any trouble.

We have just spoken to two different people at Samsung tech support, the second person was actually reasonably helpful. He said that Microsoft themselves pulled the plug on the one year trials and now force everyone to the 60 day trial. He recommended installing OpenOffice (which I've used many times before).

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of using a retail package of Office 2007 Home and Student? I believe they come with 3 licences. Is it possible to use one of those licences with the Samsung installation if they haven't already been used?

Ok so in January they said the servers are being updated?
It's now April! what's going on?

I too have a samsung netbook and it says we have a "one year prepaid online"
.... I've had my netbook for a few months but only recently wanted to use the
Office program and so needed to validate and enter the key .... I'll be
demanding a refund from Samsung if they fob this one off, part of the reason
I chose this netbook over another was for the 1 year Office applications.

Has anybody been able to sort this out?

Its now may, still no response or info about what we samsung netbook users are supposed to do. I think i will return mine if they do not sort out anything soon. If everyone using the netbook done the same i think samsung would have a problem on there hands.

When you go shopping anything you buy is covered by a law called the Sale of Goods Act 1979. This means that when you buy a product it should be:
as described
fit for purpose of satisfactory quality.

I think it says it all above product not as described !

Hello I`m from turkey, my friend bought me a samsung n130 netbook in november
from united states. I also have the icon of 1 year prepaid online for
microsoft office on my desktop but when I click it; it only gives me an
option to download the 60 day trial or to buy the full version. I tried the
product key under my computer and it says its a wrong product key. I used all
my 25 times of office and now I need to do a homework and I cannot do
anything. Im really dissappointed by this issue, I would really appreciate if
someone tells me what to do.

What exactly is your problem baby? This is not a place to vent your
anger on someone. Please state your problem briefly using this link:

Re: microsoft office activation assistant for netbooks

this is very interesting. I bought the Samsung for my fiancee and we have the same problem with the Office. As things stand I think my next machine is a Mac! And i'm definitely switching to OpenOffice. Cheerio MS.
