    Office 2003 Missing ZF612702.CAB

I am trying to re-install Office 2003 on my XP Pro laptop since last couple of hours yet not successful. When I first ran the installation, it went till 75% of the progress bar and failed with an error saying “ZF612702.CAB file missing”. Next time when I run, progress bar only reaches to 20% and the error pop ups. I tried searching this cab file on my CD as well as my entire computer but dint found it anywhere. I also checked in hidden files but yet nowhere.

The CD am using is just a year old using which I installed Office 2003 on this system a year ago. And I never used this CD since than, so what could be the problem this time ? If this file available anywhere for download ? Or any alternate solution for fixing this ? Please help

Cab files are usually installation files that use to be on CD but don’t know why there is no file named “ZF612702.CAB” available in my CD as well. Also I don’t think you will get it for download anywhere. But there are few alternate ways you can go with.

First, did you ran Disk Cleanup after removing your earlier office 2003 ? if not, that could be the problem. You must completely remove each and every file related to office before installing newer version or re-installing the same version again. Go to Start > Program Files > System Tools and Run Disk Cleanup. Make sure to delete each entry to see related to Office 2003. Once it is completed, restart the computer and start the installation. Hopefully you wont be getting the error anymore.

Second, if you still get the Missing Files Error, make a new folder on D Drive (if you have), copy entire CD content to that folder and run Setup.exe right from the folder. It works in many cases.

I tried it today, and it went all well. No file missing, no problems, worked well.
    Strange thing!

    However, it works...
