Cannot Open Registry File where User Account Info Stored

Every time I open an Office document (Word or Excel), I get the nag screen
asking me for the user name and initials. It is filled in, so I click on ok,
and the document opens. I have tried researching this issue and submitted the
questions to other forums. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, all to no
effect!

I am not able to access or open or change permissions in the user info file
under Office/General. I'm not sure why I cannot write to what is a user
registry key...

I am desperate to remove this nag screen every time I open the document. How
to I fix this...please!?

Sorry. I cannot believe I forgot this information.
I am using Vista Home Edition, and Office 2007.
It was working fine until recently, when the nag screen appeared.
