Office 2007 installation fails with error code Error 1712

I am having Windows XP SP2 system which was running with Office 2003 until yesterday. As I wanted to upgrade my Office 2003 to the latest Office 2007, I removed older version and since yesterday am trying to do the same but I keep getting various error codes. Let me list them all here:

Error 1704. An installation for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 is
currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to
continue. Do you want to undo those changes?

Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to
its previous state could not be found. Restoration will not be possible.'

Error: Failed to configure: {90120000-006E-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}
ErrorCode: 1603(0x643)

I have done whatever I could, now seeking for some working suggestions. Thanks in advance.

All these problems occurs due to some conflict in registry keys of earlier office version and new office. You said you removed Office 2003 from Control Panel but that leaves some keys and files hidden on your system that can only be removed by disk cleanup and clean boot. Try these out, do a clean boot and try installing the new Office.

Thanks for quick response buddy but unfortunately that dint helped me. Along I also tried the following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834484 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/ but yet unable to install my Office successfully.

Well it surely problem with leftover files because I have been through this situation. I did lots of research and later found a tool called “Error 1704 Cleanup Utility” that really helped me out. I’ll suggest you to download and try cleaning out with the help of this. You can download Error 1704 Cleanup Utility from here.
