search the folder or cd manually and locate pro.11.msi (the installation .exe file for office pro2003) and run it from that location. The file is likely not missing, just not viewabe from control panel. This solved the same problem I had. Locate missing .msi files http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...185721033.aspx |

Hi. I've had this same problem for 9 months now and finally got mine fixed today. Last spring, I inadvertently deleted a "hidden file", which I strongly suspect was the PRO11.MSI file, and suddenly, I was unable to get updated to SP3 or receive any security updates because it kept asking for the location of the PRO11.MSI file. I purchased my computer used and it was originally a networked computer for a large corporation. So I didn't get any software with it, other than what was on it, part of which was a corporate version of Office 2003 Pro! Today, we purchased an unused corporate version of the same software from an individual. After uninstalling Office 2003 Pro from my computer, the gentleman walked us through the reinstall. I then was able to update to SP3 and got the subsequent updates that followed. My computer is now fixed. I don't know if this info will help, or if it is different for computers that are not on the corporate version. But all we had to was uninstall the Office 2003 Pro that was already my computer when we bought it, and reinstall the corporate software we just bought and it works fine now! Also, I read on another thread somewhere that you have to be sure to delete all parts of the pro11.msi file. We didn't have to do that...unless I got all of it when I inadvertenly deleted the "hidden file". Hope this helps. I know I've read scores and scores of complaints from people with this same problem. Ours turned out to be an easy fix. |

I have the same problem but worse than that I can't access my Office 2003 Pro OEM disk. When I insert the disk I am asked for the key, I enter the key and after a time i get message 1 (see attached). As Office 2003 is already installed and only Outlook is giving me problems I tried the Detect & Repair in the Help file. The installation process started and I was asked to enter the directory for PRO11.MSI. I tried the disk but with no success. Message 4 appeared and I followed the instructions only to find that the file to which I was directed did not exist. Where can I go from here? OZI Thanks Peter. Unfortunatly, the suggestd fixes require the use of the CD and the CD will not run. OZI |
