Error 1606. could not access %appdata%\

I bought a new system last week that came with Windows 7 OS and Office 2003. I have a genuine copy of Office 2007 hence uninstalled earlier Office and tried installing the new one. But as soon as I run the Office 2007 setup it gives an error the setup quits. Here’s the error:

“Error 1606. could not access %appdata%\”

I don’t have any idea about this error, please advice.

Depending on the system may also occur in updates for Microsoft Office applications, where there also with the error code 0 × 80,070,646 or 646 are reported. This Error occurs if the Windows Installer detects an error. The installer can not identify the problem further. Cause usually a bad value is in the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders.
