office xp propet.msi

hi@all,

i have an office xp license installed since several years.
everything worked fine so far.

since two days i can not start excel anymore.
everytime i try to start excel it asks for the office installation disk an
searches for the file 'propet.msi'.
i have the original install disk. but there is no file 'propet.msi' on it.

i did not install any new software or updates (no auto update) for about 3
month.
so this can not be the cause.

does any one have a solution or hint for me?

Did you find a solution to your problem? I'm having the exact same problem
and I have critical files in Excel that I need to access.
