Air India Boeing 777- Nose wheel collapse at Mumbai Airport

The nose wheel gear of Air India Mumbai-Dubai flight collapsed during a pre-flight inspection at the parking bay of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.

Air India engineers were working on the aircraft, a leased Boeing 777-200 ER (Extended Range) when the accident occurred, an Air India spokesperson said. However, no one was injured, he said.

Only the catering truck and cargo loaders were connected to the aircraft, passenger/crew boarding was about to commence.

That could be said a sheer luck what happened actually, the airplane might have been worstly damaged when it must have impacted the concrete surface or the land. Also, the collapse of the plane happened when it was parked and not while landing or otherwise there would have been a terrible mess of lost of lives.

I think something might have come (rock) under the nose wheel which may have damaged it and hence after sometime the wheel collapsed. That is why, now a days, if you see, whenever a airplane lands on the ground, immediately an engineer goes to check the temp and readings of the wheel, and it is a must as well. It sure is a heavy damage done costing lacks of rupees for such things.
