    Maharashtra govt increases VAT on mobile phones to 12.5 %

    The government in the state of Maharashtra has increased the VAT (value added tax) on mobile phones from 4 % to 12.5 %. Now your mobile phone will be costly compare to Other states.

    Grey market mobile phone demand will increase in Maharashtra.

    Prices of mobile, cordless, video phones as well as digital and video cameras are set to increase in Maharashtra with the Government hiking VAT (value-added tax) from four per cent to 12.5 per cent in its additional Budget presented here on Thursday.

    That means If X phone price is Rs. 10,000 that phone price will now increase by 12.5 % i.e means around Rs. 11,200. There is Rs. 1000 difference. I will prefer without bill phone.
