This city consists of an Electronic disposal industry named to be niche industry which consists of working employees as tens thousands, majority of them are in small aged children as their family run workshops regarding this profeesion.

The Electronic waste consists of materials such as lead, gold, copper and other metals that are usually found in the circuit boards, wiring, chips and other parts of electronic gadgets.

We know that industrial waste are thrown away but here much of the waste from the disposal work is been particularly the ash from the burning of coal, is thrown or given an outlet into city's streams, rivers and canals, poisoning the wells and groundwater and sometimes the drinking one too which causes hundreds of diseases and number of deaths to the local population. Health reports from the region say that Guiyu's children suffer from an extremely high rate of lead poisoning.

The reason for highest level of cancer causing is due to dioxins that eject from these ewaste industries.

Electronic waste imports have been banned and declared illegal in China since 1996, but the country is so hungry and desperate for all kinds of metal materials that it has turned a blind eye towards suffering of the population i n Guiyu.

In a recent search, Guiyu alone handles one million tonnes of e-waste every year.

After this thorough dismembering, any remaining combustibles are left to burn in open fires, leaving an acrid stench of plastic, rubber and paint in the air.

According to China's Computer Trade Association, some 2.3 million PCs, 2.7 million computer displays and 1.35 million printers were dumped domestically in 2002.

The environmental impact is enormous and unimaginable. Waterways are black and chocked with waste and local residents must pay ten times what their neighbours in the township of Chendian do.

A very high amount of incidence of diseases such as skin damage, headaches, vertigo, nausea, chronic gastritis, and gastric and duodenal ulcers are been noticed in the population population.

Well at least they are recycling it, and earn something from those recycled materials. Instead of just throwing it somewhere that may cause a danger to people and to the environment.
