This is the handmade three-dimensional star atlas that helps you find and identify celestial objects from anywhere on Earth, at any hour of the day or night, on any date of the year. Its spherical design makes determining the relative positions of celestial phenomena easier than consulting traditional, two-dimensional charts. At the center is a 5" diameter Earth globe connected to a rotator knob for aligning the day of choice.
The Earth is surrounded by an adjustable horizon ring that can be rotated 360 to establish the horizon level, while a rotating arm lets you align the position of the sun. Surrounding the inner components is a clear 16" diameter sphere marked with stars, dee p sky objects, constellation diagrams, and other celestial features observable from Earth. An access port cut into the external sphere allows you to manipulate the horizon ring. By looking through the exterior of the clear globe, you can see which constellations are visible from your vantage point exactly how and where they appear in the night sky. Stars are identified by name, Greek letter, brightness, and distance from Earth in light years. The star atlas is carefully crafted from hand-blown museum-quality acrylic that is painstakingly screen-printed by hand on the inside of the globe. Includes tabletop stand and a 48-page instruction book featuring constellation stories, deep sky objects, and more, written by noted astonomy expert and fo rmer editor of Sky and Telescope magazine, the late George Lovi. 16" Diam.
