| dropping internet connection? There are 2 computers on the network. One is connected to the Linksys router (my brother) and the one that is connected to the Linksys adapter(mine) is the one losing connection. When it does lose connection, my brother's internet still works. And to get it working on mine, I have to unplug the router just for a second or two. I pretty sure it is not the router because I just bought it not to long ago. And the adapter is fairly new also. As for the modem, I had Insight monitor the connection to see if it would drop connection when I was having same problems as above. This has been several months. Even though the adapter is fairly new, to me that would seem to be the problem seeing that only mine losing connection. I hope someone can help. BTW, We have insight broadband.

If your dads is not loosing signal it looks like it is the adaptor. I need to know what kind of adaptopr you mean.. USB? Or is it a wireless range extender? Model number would be perfect.

If your using a Linksys version 5 or 6 router, yes you may have some problems. I used the same and my internet signal kept dropping. At first I thought it was a defect in the router. I would have to re-boot 2 - 3 times a day. I did some checking on the router after doing an RMA and the replacement router did the same and found that Linksys changed from a linux os to VxWorks os and cut the ram in half on the version 5 and 6 routers. They also sold out to Cisco. There is a fix for this..http://www.wrtrouters.com/guides/upgradetolinux/ I went on eBay and found me a Version 2 Linksys router and it works perfect as it was one never touched by Cisco and is the only version with a mini PCI wireless card installed and has 16 mb ram.. I flashed an update to it and it works great.
