How to protect Word files from being shared on internet

My uncle works on different projects. He sell his research in the form of office files. Like Word or Excel. Mostly they are Word files. I want some way to protect those files. Like adding the author name which no one can modify. There are many free files also, shared but I cannot see his name in that which was added at the time of creating document. Is there a way to lock it. Like no one can remove the name or site url which is in the file. I had tried to add that in footer but still it is easy to remove.

You can add in the file preterites about the same. File properties will remain same and you can remove the editing rights for it. It is easier. This will keep the authors name intact on it. Or the best you can do is get copyright of those files.

Author details is used for branding purpose. You can lock it. Through which the file properties will always shows to whom this document belong. But you cannot lock editing writes. If you only want that people should read the content of a file then you can make a pdf file out of that. To do that you have to use visual basic. You have to apply certain codes in the file. And this is complicated but a nice way of protecting your document. You don't rely on any third part thing here. The second thing you can do is create pdf files and then lock them. PDF files comes with powerful security features. Once encrypted no one can covert or modify the same. Adobe Acrobat XI is the latest pdf reader in the market. You can manage password and permission through that. So whenever anyone try to modify it, the file will ask for password. You can refer to the official site for more information on it.

You can add the author details but that is easy to modify buy others. You can find those things in the Document Properties. For that you have to click on Office button and then you have to click on Options. Then there you can find Popular button and then click on Personalize your copy of Office. That's all and then add the username. You can then fill up the details and go ahead with sharing the files with other. Once you add the name you can share, but this can be modified with others. Copyrighting the document is the best thing. Here it can help you to go ahead with simple solution for stopping anyone in using your content. IT can be shared but it won't be owned by another.

You must copyright them. Then won't have to worry about author stuff. If anyone tries to modify the file or try to use it on their own name you can sue them easily. This is the best way to protect your files online.

Here you are trying to protect a word file from unauthorized changes. There is a option available for the same. You don't require to go ahead with any third party software in the same. First you can simply lock your document by applying a digital certificate. This is one of the best thing used by corporates to keep their document protected and secure from unwanted changes. You can apply that from Tools menu. In that you can see security under options. Click on Digital Signature and then click on add and put the certificate of your choice. Or you can block the file for modification by adding a password. The file will be viewable but no one would be able to modify the same. For that click on file > tools > options > security. And add the password.

Go for digital signatures. If you share a lot file on web and want to maintain its author details then go ahead with the digital signature thing. This is very beneficial and easy to use. Once you took this you can apply this on all your documents. This is cheaper that copyright.
