    Microsoft Security Essentials not running Automatic scan

    I am using MSE since long years. Recently i had to re-install Windows 7 on my PC. Installed all drivers and required softwares including MSE. But I dont know what went wrong either with my system or MSE itself. I installed it about ten days ago this time. usually i set evening time for Auto Scan daily. But this time, my MSE scanned only for first three days and stopped. Since then, no matter how many times i reset the settings, it just wont run the automatic scan. I need to scan my system every time manually in morning and that hampers my work. Any help regarding this will be appreciated.

    First of all let me tell you that MSE requires your PC to be ON, nor turned off neither in sleep mode. Most of the times we schedule the scan when our system remains free and in that condition it goes to sleep mode which prevents MSE to scan the system.

    Hope, you understood what i am trying to say. The evening time you have set for Auto scan, make sure the pc wont go in sleep mode.

    I think you were right buddy.. I checked the sleep timer, it was set to 10 minutes after inactivity. I guess when i use to go out for the break (when the auto scan timer is set), system would be going to sleep and hence MSE was not running. I increased the sleep timer to 1 hour and Autoscan runs fine since past two days.

    You can also assign MSE to run at specific time using the built-in task scheduler as well as using a small .bat file. You just need to type the following in a notepad file with and save it with extension .bat in your startup programs list:

    @echo off
    Timeout /t 120
    cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client
    msseces.exe –UpdateandQuickScan

    I do the same thing.
