Re: Novell Netware 6.5 for Linux

The NetWare application environment has evolved, but still runs on the familiar NetWare kernel. And that's precisely the problem: a lot of applications do not work on NetWare because software developers to concentrate on Windows or Linux. But Novell is not standing still. In NetWare 6.5 is support for many open source packages improved the kernel is tuned to Apache, MySQL, Tomcat, Perl and PHP. Existing applications, utilities and modules that are built on this technology, without too many modifications running on NetWare. And next year promises to Novell a drastic solution to the compatibility issue: NetWare 7.0 is ported to a Linux kernel. NetWare 6.5, the lives of end users, network administrators and application developers easier. Like its predecessors, NetWare 6.5 is an excellent prints and file server. The greatest advantage for the end user is the web-based access to applications that are bundled with the NOS. The Virtual Office application gives users access to files through a browser, applications, printers, communications services and groupware services. This includes webmail GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes, password management, document publishing and Web-based templates. Virtual Office includes iFolder 2.0, the latest version of Novell's software for data synchronization. iFolder can be described as a collection of files, accessible via the Internet. Re: Novell Netware 6.5 for Linux

One of the main concerns I had with NetWare 6 was the lack of an integrated management utility. Novell has listened to that criticism: NetWare 6.5 contains excellent installation and upgrade wizards and iManager 2.0, a Web-based management tool that gives you complete control over all parts of the NIS and the applications. Netware 6.5 contains features that are attractive to businesses of all sizes. The included applications make it possible to streamline IT management, IT budget to slim down and increase user productivity. The 6.5-release seems an attractive upgrade for those who are already using NetWare. Companies that are considering a move to this OS, it is better to wait until the move to Linux in NetWare 7.0 compatibility increases. Contains the NetWare 6.5 and exteNd Application Server exteNd Workbench, a solution for Web services and other applications to develop and deploy. The exteNd package came in possession of Novell after the acquisition of SilverStream. This software enables J2EE and web application development with a variety of standards.

Re: Novell Netware 6.5 for Linux

The early nineties were the heyday of NetWare; it then had a market share of around 75% for file servers. It was praised by a flexibility, stability and simplicity. Then it went downhill and became the largest market share taken by the Server version of Microsoft Windows. This was mainly due to the fact that Windows is much better able to function as application server than NetWare and thus was more versatile. Moreover, Windows also caught up in the classical benefits of NetWare, as mentioned above and found the Microsoft marketing machine more powerful than that of Novell. NetWare currently plays only a marginal role in the market for operating systems for file servers. In mid 2003, Novell announced that they have all the functionality that is available on NetWare, will also transfers to Linux. This and the acquisition by Novell, a Linux distribution is the survival of NetWare for discussion, although Novell itself vehemently denies that.

Re: Novell Netware 6.5 for Linux

NetWare is an operating system network advanced by Novell, that permits the networking of PCs, if DOS, Windows, UNIX or Mac OS. NetWare had terrific accomplishment in the eighties as the first poignant lattice operating system perfect with standard PC IBM perfect and MS DOS. The framework required a server or devoted semi devoted, whose hard plate was designed only for NetWare, and had its solidness in programming for customers, in particular light, stable, and good with unexpected stages. Around the a considerable number of benefits of NetWare is to present on the business sector of large-scale concepts of information sharing and networking, which have ended up normal for all advanced associations and likewise have donated to the dispersion of standard frameworks lattice that still survive, for example a card mechanics with Ethernet. The NetWare framework survives in countless communities today, in spite of the fact that it has been traded by Open Enterprise Server (OES).
