ipv6 telnet

can somebdy plz guide me to configure telnet for ipv6..m using red hat as well as ubuntu..can i telnet using ipv6 link local address.. i am not able to connect using telnet command.. the message displayed while using loop back address is...

Trying ::1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

plz help me to provide solution for this..

Well you can try with the v6 IP of the host:

telnet 2001:980:ffe:1::42

or else try visiting http://ipv6.google.com.

if you get address not found then you dont have ipv6.

currently only a few ISPs offer ipv6.

i dont have ipv6 connectivity but can i not use telnet by link local address

e.g. telnet fe80:.....
or telnet ::1

i am able to ping my link local address

e.g. ping6 -I eth0 fe80:...
or ping6 ::1

if i m able to ping link local address of ipv6 why i cant telnet the link local address..
