    Not able to use WPA/WPA2 with Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g adapter+Belkin Basic Router F7D1301 v1

I own hp Compaq Presario A931NR and it is having Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g adapter and the system is connected to Belkin Basic Router F7D1301 v1 but then I am not able to use WPA/WPA2 and I am just able to use the WEP with it, I have checked out for updating the driver but then it reports that the driver is updated, so I just wanted to know if there is any update for my Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g adapter, is there anyone who can help me out??

I am having the same issue with the Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g adapter and the Belkin Router, I had contacted the Belkin support and they said that I will have to update the driver but then the Device Manager says that I am having an updated driver:
    Atheros AR5007 802.11.b/g WiFi Adapter
    Driver Provider: Atheros Communication Inc
    Driver Version: 7.3.201.25
    Driver Date: 05/30/2007
File Version: 7.3.1.25 built by WinDDK

Is there anything that we can do to use WPA/WPA2?

I have checked out for the same and you are having an old driver but ten I don’t know why is it showing that you are having a updated driver and so, anyways just check out the below driver and then you should be able to use WPA/WPA2.
    Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver
Just try it out and post back the result that you get.

Hey thanks for that but then how can I conform if the driver that you have mentioned is compatible with hp Compaq Presario A931NR? Actually I have checked out the above driver and it is for HP EliteBook 6930p and my model has not been listed there in the release note of the Atheros 2011 Wireless LAN Driver. What do you have to say about the same???

I will like to add that it will work for any Atheros card that has been mentioned below without being concerned of the notebook.
    • Atheros AR5006 802.11a/b/g WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR5009 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR9380 802.11 a/g/n WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR9382 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter
    • Atheros AR9485 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter

It is not compulsory that it should be a HP notebook only, anyways there is no harm in trying out the driver, you should give it a try, just check it out and then let me know if you have any further issues.

So now I have downloaded and installed the sp54972.exe from the link that you had posted but even after that the issue is not getting solved and I am still not able to use WPA/WPA2, is there any other driver that I can try out?? Any further help for the same will be highly appreciated.

I am not very sure but then if you want then you can try out the below variant of the driver:
    sp53261.exe
just try out the same and then let me know if it is helping you out in using WPA/WPA2 or not.

I have finally found a solution for you, just try out the solution that has been mentioned below and then the issue will get solved:
    • First download this sp54972.exe driver from the above link and make sure that you are just saving it and not installing it.
    • After that go in to network and sharing center and then disconnect the connection from there and then move to the disconnect and then in the network adapters section and right click on your Atheros wireless adapter and then click on uninstall,
    • When the driver gets uninstalled then reboot the machine and then it will recognize the wireless card again and if it is installing the driver then check out the driver version and date, if it is 9.2.0.444 of 2011 it will work fine.
    • If not then install the file that you have downloaded and saved and had not installed it and then again check out the version and make sure that it is 9.2.0.444.
    • Now you can go in to the network and sharing center and again set the connection and after that you should not have any issues in using WPA/WPA2.

    Hope that helps.

If the above solution does not help then you can just try out the below set up and the driver, this have been tested by a member and it works fine:
    Network Name (SSID) :
    Wireless Security : Configured
    Network Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK
    Data Encryption : AES
    Network Key (PSK) :

    Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter
    Version: 9.2.0.458
    Date: 10-3-2011
    Provider: Atheros Communications Inc.
MAC Filtering Enabled & SSID broadcasting Disabled
