Ethernet and Wi-Fi not working on Aspire 5749 with Debian Squeeze

I got a new laptop Acer Aspire 5749 and I installed Debian Squeeze on my laptop today only. But after installing Debian Squeeze I am getting problems in my Wi-Fi and Ethernet. As I am not able to enable my Wi-Fi. So I tried to search and I also tried to follow steps mentioned on wiki.debian.org/iwlagn but I am not able to connect the Wi-Fi yet and getting (iwconfig returns: "x no wireless extension" for x in "lo","eth0", and ?pan0"). And about the Ethernet I am just able to connect to the internet for sometimes and after that the connection losses. So I have to reboot it and when I try to ping my router I am not getting any ping also. So can anyone over here help me to fix this problem? I will provide you with the lspci code also what I am getting in my laptop.

re: Ethernet and Wi-Fi not working on Aspire 5749 with Debian Squeeze

Hey can you just try and get the output of these two:

Quote:
lspci -knn
lsmod
And when the connection of your Ethernet goes just take the whole output:

Quote:
dmesg | tail -50
As after seeing that codes and error someone would be able to help you surely.

Re: Ethernet and Wi-Fi not working on Aspire 5749 with Debian Squeeze

Install network-config, I use this as a simple network manager. My installation is direct connect - I did not need a network manager at all. However, I got into a jam when I booted into my second kernel (system specific), and when I came back to my primary kernel the network would not work. I had been doing a reload in times past. However, using network-config - which will only show-up at the bottom of "other" programs, and making eth0 active (check box) I was able to avoid rebuild. Very simple, very effective. There is a selection for wlan0 as well, provided your wireless is configured properly. I also discovered that my network, although working - was handicapped. Now it is full blown.
