how to get netgear dgn100 to connect

I bought a netgear dgn1000 on the orange home broadband and although it works fine on the wifi, I cannot get it to connect on my windows xp computer. All the wires are secure so that is not the problem, whenever I open firefox it will ask me for a user name and password, I cant remember setting one of these so i put in all the possibilities but then it will come up 'a connection from this modem cannot be established because the modem is not availble or busy' I am not very computer literate so i have no idea what to do. I have looked online for help but nothing seems ti have helped..any help will be appriciated.

The username and passwordd that you are getting is the login page or setup page for the router where you need to put the proper ip address. Normally the ip address should be 192.168.0.1. Can you also try the below:

First click on Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.
