Before I suggest you something about the same I wanted to know the following:
    • Which is the operating system that you are running??
    • Have you tried out disabling the firewall protection and see if you are able to see the other computers in the network??

Just check it out and answer the same for further help.

I am using windows xp professional and I have tried enabling and disabling the firewall protection now but then it is not making any difference, is there any other thing that I can try out to get rid of this issue, any further help will be highly appreciated.

Ok just check out the below things and let me know the result:
    • Try to ping the other computer and see if you are able to do so?
    • Are you able to see your computer from the other computer in the network?
    • Try to disabling and enabling Windows simple file sharing and see if it is making any difference?

Just perform the below solution to find out the cause of the issue:
    • First uninstall the antivirus and then restart the machine and then do a custom installation and just install the antivirus protection and then go in to the safe mode.
    • After that Rename the TPSrv and SysTools, the TPSrv will be in the antivirus installation folder where as the SysTools.dll will be located in the C:\Windows\System32\ to SysTools.dl
    • When you are done with the same then Reboot the machine again and see if you are able to see the other computer on the network.

Yes you can very well try out the above solution but then if the problem still exists then follow the below solution:
Juts reboot the machine in the safe mode and then change the below files that will be present in the antivirus installation folder:
    • pavhttp.dll
    • pavtplsp.dll
    • pavtrc.dll
    • webproxy.exe
After renaming them restart the machine and see if it is making any difference.
