In the configuration of your Wi-Fi router, you must have a table of MAC address filtering. You go into this table, the MAC address of the interface of the laptop Wi Fi, so only your cell will have access to the wireless network.

WPA2 uses to encrypt the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and is considered today by state at a sufficiently complex as a key not be cracked with reasonable effort. The old security options such as WEP can be defeated in seconds without special equipment or techniques using something as simple as a browser add-on application or a mobile phone. WPA2 is the latest security algorithm included with virtually all wireless systems, most often accessible via the configuration screen.

Choosing short but complex password is one of the key to protection. Even the latest encryption mechanisms such as WPA2 can be compromised by using attacks that use an automated process to try billions of possible passwords. Long passwords need not be difficult to remember. Using a phrase such as "securiserparfaitementmonreseausansfil" rather than a short password and complex as "w1f1p4ss! "Offers more security, since the computing power needed to test and crack a key so long is difficult to achieve.

There are many of the routers which come with a WiFi wireless network name default (or SSID ) as "netgear" or "linksys" that most users do not bother to change. The SSID is used as part of the password encryption WPA2. Do not change it allows hackers to compose lists of consultation password for the current SSID, which significantly accelerate the process of piracy, allowing them to test millions of passwords per second. A customized SSID significantly increases the time and effort required to try to compromise a wireless network.

Modern access points have multiple antennas and power transmission, and broadcast signals beyond the walls of your company or your home. Some products allow you to adjust the transmission power of radio waves through menu options. It is thus possible to limit the geographic coverage of a wireless network, preventing outside users to connect and maximizing protection.

Most of the security box that emits a Wi-Fi comes especially to choose a good encryption (WPA2), protected by a strong password. These protections should ideally be complemented with monitoring software, which quickly detects any intrusion, and inform the user. Filtering by MAC address can also be a complement to other protection. MAC filtering allows you to include or exclude certain machines on a network, thanks to the unique identifier each network card. You can also set up a hotspot on your box, ie the secure sharing of a small portion of your connection.

Here are some of the things that must be kept in mind:

    • Change the default password that comes into our router.
    • Change the SSID that is configured by default.
    • Disable broadcasting the network name (SSID broadcast).
    • Encrypt the network using WPA or if the model allows WPA2 router.
    • Enable MAC address filtering.
    • Disable the DHCP server.
    • Change the key to our regular wifi.
    • When we are not using the network, turn off the router.

You must keep on changing the password in order to make the network support. Once your password is hacked then anyone can easily have access to the network and other security tips will be useless. So this is the most important thing to be taken care.

Limiting the network area is also one of the best things to do in order to have security. So limit the range of that to the area where you would like to have that and anybody outside of that will not have access to the network.
