    Difference between ASR 9000 4GB and ASR 9000 8GB

Hi friends recently I have decided to have the one Cisco router so I am confused between the Cisco A9K-RSP-4G ASR 9000 Route Switch Processor with 4GB Memory and Cisco A9K-RSP-4G ASR 9000 Route Switch Processor with 8GB Memory , so I just want to know which one will be better between this two? What is the need for the additional 4GB of memory, so if you guys have any of the information then please does the reply.

According to my information some of the chips used in N7K can be reused in a9k with some other features. And beside this the fabric operation between N7K and A9K are similar, so if you are going for the selection between the routers, then take the one who is best in both RIB (Routing Information Base) and FIB (Forwarding Information Base). And the main thing that the RIB is used for holding all the routes from all protocols and FIB decide for which have to be forward. So depends on your need you can have the routers.

The first thing here is why the 4G/8G discussion comes into play, so it is simple that if there is some of the high MSE scale in term of many pmaps and also large RIB, lots of BGP routes is came into existence then 8G version is good for that condition. So depending on the paths, attributes etc you can have this routers.

If there is the need for the 4G and only for BGP routes, then you can scale up to 7M routes which were the already present in the BGP routes.
So if there is 2 paths which almost have the same set of attributes then they are consuming less amount of memory depends upon their set of attributes.
So there only the memory size diff between these two routers, both are well and useful.

The thing that I know about this difference in between the route switch processor memory is that, the 4 GB of memory is able to load the 1.3 million IPv4 routes whereas the 8 GB of memory for the RSP is used to load more large number of IPv4 routes.

Route Switch Processor with 8G Memory is a type of Router Module, which can be used for the Wide Area Network purpose. Cisco ASR 9000 Series Route Switch Processors are scalable, and the low-power, this is one of the best next-generation Carrier Ethernet platforms along with the uses there for the system architecture. This is well designed for the get the unique convergence requirements of Layer 2 Ethernet transport plus Layer 3 services.
