Suggestion for NAS File Server in a small business

We have the NAS File Server in a small business and I am in charge of this for one week as the IT guy is out. I want to get somewhat within the 1.5-2tb disk range which is mirrored probably stripped, not completely sure we require a RAID 5 configuration but I will really appreciate your opinions about this. What would be pleasant is to have a hotswap bay intended for our monthly hard disk offsite backups. Thank you so much in advance for reading and replying to this.

You can take a look at the Synology DS1511+ and that will do all the things what you are looking and even more than that. The diskless version is lying on Amazon for about $900.

The ZyXEL Network Storage Appliance is the ideal solution for small businesses and SOHO-/Heimanwender. It cannot just storing files, but also content from a Microsoft Windows Network in Windows XP or Windows 2000 are used together. Data consolidation and the possibility of centralized management not only improve the memory efficiency of local computers, but also allow easy sharing of files and a data transfer with each other over the network.

I don’t accept being caught straight to a NAS could be the best wagered particularly for reinforcement and DR explanations. I could take a NAS and catch it to a pc and put several nics in the pc. Then catch that to a gig switch and impart off of that. Then you are able to establish an auxiliary operator or drop the information to an item for example Mozy master, neighborhood tape, or damnation, an additional nas. The day you can’t return from a full on disaster is the day when our set up to work toward getting fired, even depending on if you aren’t the poignant IT person. Moreover, as a veteran SE, my assumption is that you are determined to be working together. It is someone you are able to call to help you get it setup, and provided that you have hang-up, you could probably impart with them, or pay them.

The NAS storage units are equipped with hardware and embedded software whose purpose is to completely decentralize the data on different PCs on the LAN by allowing its participants to be able to use at any time regardless of the presence or absence of other clients in network. In this direction, the concept of conditions] vision previously used in a classic form of sharing client / server is completely void: If the server (the machine that contains the files, not a server in a strictly technical sense) was not on the net not having possible access to documents within it, even though the network. And 'possible to completely clear all these issues related to older methods of sharing, thanks to the NAS.

The NAS is equipped with network interface (can be wired and / or wireless) and within them you can mount the shared hard drive, 3.5 "capacity which generally does not exceed 500 GB, alternatively you can purchase models natively with the main mass storage without the user having to worry about having to do so, but only deciding which size to choose in terms of memory. Often the NAS, providing the opportunity to expand the mass storage system through the use of additional memory units, such as the very common external USB hard drives, or even the pen drive may provide additional features such as the implementation of print-server capabilities and ftp-server: this feature can be used on some models, both locally and remotely, allowing even those who physically resides in the place where the NAS is able to manage their files from remote locations.

If you require the deskless NAS then you will require mass storage root, usually a hard disk, 3.5 "PATA or SATA interface. You can install disks with different capacities, generally up to 500GB. No company currently expects to purchase kits bundle + NAS Hard Drive so it will be the end user to decide on make and model of hard to use. Once installed the memory unit, the software of the NAS will format and prepare it for use by the special features software that is provided. Currently, most products involves the use of a single disk, even if they are gradually spreading models that allow you to use 2 or more discs, clearly oriented to the use of RAID to increase data security. They are usually intended for a fairly experienced user on this as hardware knowledge is required (although basic) and a good command of the configuration tools, sometimes cumbersome, in this type of devices.

There are also the cheapest devices that perform the task of sharing though with many gaps in more from the standpoint of the technical characteristics: they are the NDAS devices.

Every day the network storage servers are more powerful and we include more features. Most of them can give us plenty of storage with safe management of disks configured in RAID and a single management capacity of the system, usually through a web interface. But many doubt we have to recommend a company, a server or NAS, the choice will depend on the security that the company intends to implement in the network.

Network Attached Storage (NAS) refers to one or more of the local network-attached-storage units for added storage in the network. A NAS can either have its own hard drive storage (NAS Appliance), or is connected to a Storage Area Network (SAN) is connected and uses the memory of the connected storage systems. Can companies high-performance, redundant and fail-safe NAS solutions that replace traditional Windows / Linux / Unix file server. The benefits of network attached storage system are present here, that these mostly one-way to install, scalable and are easier to administer and easier.

There are also NAS which can be extended to hard drives, like mine. I can plug it in it several hard disks, but then e-SATA (1 port) or USB (via HUB several), then the NEM, however, it should work in an external case.
