Firmware for Linksys wrt54g2 v1 is saving as a media file

some days before I came to know that there is a firmware upgrade available for my Linksys wrt54g2 v1 and after that whenever I download the firmware installation file which is in BIN format at that time computer shows it is a media file and it has VLC player icon is this normal. Please tell what I should do to update the firmware.

Yes the Bin file is installation file and when you download that file at that time save it on your desktop so that you can easily access that file. after saving that you should continue with the firmware update process.

If you don’t know about how to update the firmware of your Linksys wrt54g2 v1 router then you have to Follow this steps.

first you have to download the firmware update file from the internet and then save it on your desktop.
after that you have to open your web browser.
After opening the web browser you have to enter 192.168.1.1 in address bar.
after that you have to click on the enter admin as a password and username should remain blank.
after that you have to click on the Administration tab.
Now after clicking on the Administration tab you will see the Firmware Upgrade option in that.
after that you have to click on the browse option.
after clicking on the browse you have to locate the firmware update file which you have downloaded.
now after that you have to click on the upgrade button and then it is done.

well according to your given steps I have successfully updated the firmware and not all the thingsare working properly. thank you for helping me and helping me. first I thught that there is the problem with my system because of the VLC icon but your solution was really helpful for me.
