Norton Internet Security unable to remove tracking cookies

I have a pc that has Windows vista preinstalled in it. I usually surf the internet a lot. So, I just bought the Norton Internet Security 2010 antivirus to protect my pc from viruses. It used to work properly until today. There is some problem related to tracking cookies. I have run several scans, both quick and full, but every time my antivirus reports that my pc has 252 tracking cookies. I tried to remove them by clicking “fix” and also the “all” button which appears at the bottom of the report, but the tracking cookies are still not deleted. I also tried to remove them by selecting “Remove”, but the result remains the same. Every time I do the scan, the tracking cookies appear on the report and do not get deleted. Is there any way I can delete them? I would appreciate some useful solutions.

I have also been using the same version of Norton, and had encountered the same problem once. So, up to my knowledge, there must be some problem with the installation. I would like to ask you that, did you do as “over install” of NIS 2010 over NIS 2009. Or did you uninstall NIS 2010 and then installed it again? Sometimes, the “over install is not as clean and proper as it seems and may cause problem in future usage. The new engines in NIS 2010 do not inherit the same settings as NIS 2009. To solve this problem, I would suggest you to uninstall NIS 2010 and run the Norton Removal Tool (you can get it from the internet) which will clean whatever was left behind by the NIS 2009. And now, install NIS 2010 from scratch. Now, it will work properly and will also delete tracking cookies.

Tracking Cookies are not harmful like infections and you can set your NIS 2010 to automatically remove Tracking Cookies without prompting you. If your NIS 2010 installation was clean and you don’t want to uninstall it, you can try to change the settings in NIS 2010. You can follow these steps to change the settings in your NIS 2010:
    • Open your NIS 2010 and then select the "Settings" link next to Computer.
    • Under the Computer Scans category, locate the "Tracking Cookies Scan" option and move the slider so that it says "Remove”.
    • Select the "apply" option and then click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.
Now that you have changed the settings, the Tracking Cookies will be deleted automatically whenever a background scan takes place.

Re: Norton Internet Security unable to remove tracking cookies

I was facing the same problem with my NIS 2010. I tried finding solutions from the internet but none of them worked. I was really getting frustrated as I don’t like any kind of problems in my pc and like to keep it clean from errors. So, I decided to remove the Tracking cookies manually. This is what I did. I went to Control Panel and then clicked on Internet Options. There was an option which stated, “delete temp files, cookies, saved passwords and web form information”. I clicked on that option and deleted them. After I did that, my NIS 2010 was able to delete all the cookies that I received later, including the Tracking Cookies.
