    dial up error 691

I am getting dsial upo error 691.

i had checked the password and user name.

routine stuff like unchecking of win logon, allow u nsecured password in security settings in the properties of the connection etc yielded no help.

deleted and recretated the dial up connection number of times.

    still same result.

    can any one guide?

Most probably this error occurs if your User or password is incorrect. But as you said you already verified and its correct than there is one more cause for this problem and its if Include Windows logon domain check box is selected in the Options tab of the dial-up connection's Properties dialog box or the the dial-up connection's security option is incorrectly configured to use the Require secured password setting. To troubleshoot this problem, simply follow the steps mentioned in this Microsoft Article.

Do you have KB911280 installed? If so back it off. It is near impossible to find, but this fix breaks dial-up networking in some instances. Does every place you dial fail or just some? The specific problem that the original fix broke was when the parity had to be switched during the dial up and connection process. So you want to make sure that you are dialing up the same place using the same script.

It seems kb 911280 not installed.

i use win xp sp3 as os.

bsnl is the isp for my dial up.

for the past 3 weeks i am getting this dial up error 691.

i could not recollect, what action on my side if any caused this error.

Does it go to do with any moderm software?

    Re: dial up error 691

I am still facing the problem.

still same 691 error. I could check the sancharnet nbalance using my userid and password.

Today i was abled to connect using "netone".

that means, there is no problem with my laptop settings.

what else could be the problem for the above dialup error?

I could not get any customer care number for bsnl for dial up.

    1957/12678 is not gettting.

It could be possible that the Telephon.ini file got corrupted or damaged and that is why you are getting the issue with the same. I will advise you is to go with the below given instruction.
    • Find the Telephone.ini file
    • Rename Telephone.ini file with Telephon.old.
    • Restart your computer
    • Find the Tapiini.exe in \Windows\System folder
    • Double Click on Tapiini.exe
    • This will create a new Telephone.ini file
    • Now check whether issue resolved.
