Role of DNS and DHCP in VoIP

Correct handling of ENUM, NAPTR and hidden behind services is for the DNS server. When supplied with the operating system versions is provided in the rule, no special configuration settings. Administrators have the error-prone management of ENUM and NAPTR records to make board products if they are even possible. ENUM always requires more effort in the DNS management on the part of the administrator, as a pure data network . This mapping of E.164 numbers is to Fully Qualified Domain Names and management of NAPTR resource records. and thus error-prone - - replacement by regular expression to implement the URI in a proper, user-requested service is a potentially complex. Specialized appliances provide for simple tools and wizards, remove the administrator a lot of work and simplify the handling of ENUM zones and NAPTR records. I want some more information about the role of DNS and DHCP in VoIP. Please provide the needful.

Before your number as an ENUM domain is available, it must be registered as a regular domain. In Germany the number range +49 is managed by DENIC, in Austria ENUM.at for the number range +43 responsible. The organizations awarded the ENUM domains but not directly, but through membership providers and telephone companies. Requirements for registration are:
    • The phone number must have a counterpart in the Numbering Plan.
    • The registrant of ENUM domains must have the right to use the phone number.
    • The phone number must be an ENUM number range available to come.

The process runs automatically in most ENUM-enabled clients, the user enters only the desired phone number. The result is a complete domain name ("Fully Qualified Domain Name = FQDN) like any other domain name may be used. The distinction which service under the domain name is waiting, do the Naming Authority Pointer Records. If the user selects the number of a VoIP phone is on the first ENUM DNS system to point to the NAPTR record broken. For each domain, multiple NAPTR records are set for each communication address one. The evaluation of these resource records is one or more Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), under which the desired service of the specified domain and / or telephone number can be addressed.

NAPTR records provide the additional information in a very flexible way. There are preferences, which service should be used as a rule, several NAPTR records of the same priority to a name that can be achieved even a kind of burden-sharing. The NAPTR record type may thus as an extension of the classic A records or SRV records of a DNS record to be considered. The structure of NAPTR records, however, is complex. Will be supplied to an inquiry by a domain name back, but a regular expression (regular expression) that has to be disassembled first. A regular expression is a string with which the description of sets or subsets of strings with the help of certain syntactic rules. The ultimate objective is to extract the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) from the regular term. A URI is a string that is used to identify an abstract or physical resource. URIs are the identification of resources such as Web pages, used call of web services but also e-mail recipients.

Voice over IP after a while the hype was simply, it is now quiet about the phone calls over packet become. That does not mean that the customers had lost interest in VoIP. Now the market are a number of manufacturers on active systems for companies of all sizes offering: from the three-user solution, without a central server manages up to the Enterprise solution for multinational corporations. to combine voice and data in the end, the biggest gain of VoIP will be. With VoIP you can turn your phone into a very powerful and intelligent part of office communications, so functions are possible with a traditional analog phone would never be realized. However, the implementation looks like, is clear: who relies solely on VoIP for voice communication, must ensure that the service has at least as high availability, as traditional telephony. That the infrastructure, ie switches and routers , are redundant, of course in such a case by itself and the server with the actual IP-PBX is usually backed up by appropriate action. On another basic requirement for smooth VoIP but think the least - the DHCP and DNS service.
