    Cache function in Proxy Server

I want to know about the cache function in Proxy Server. I am having some basic knowledge about the proxy server, but I want to increase my knowledge it to some extent. LANs are often connected to the Internet via gateways or routers, they most often use TCP / IP. The initial role of the proxy server or proxy was to relay requests from a local or private network to remote networks. Today the role of torchbearer has become obsolete. Proxy servers or agent, have new duties. It is possible to design a proxy server for each service using the Internet (web, ftp, telnet, news ...). For these things, I want to know about the cache functions and other things. I am sure that you members will provide some details about cache functions and other things related to it.

Function cache (caching). The server keeps track of all web pages requested by the clients it serves. The cache used to store information locally with a high probability of being called up again. Thus the cache speeds up retrieval of information or webpages already stored on the server, they can update themselves automatically. The decrease in network traffics outward, also reduces the problems of too frequent malevolence on the World Wild Web. The recording feature (tracking). The server keeps a detailed log of all information flowing through it. Like any server, proxy generates a log file (log file). There are traces of queries made by all the client server. The logs provide the following information, Identification of customer (under various formats, customer name or machine ...), the date and time of connection, URLs resources available, size and download time, etc.. The person connected to a proxy server or proxy can not be anonymous unless of course, that person is illegally connect to a computer connected to the proxy.

Function filter (filtering). The server can be configured so that it operates an information filtering. One can also ask him to manage the rights of customers of the Internet. It is possible to configure a proxy server or proxy so that it scans the contents of the packets it receives, and it refuses to transmit those who do not meet pre-determined strategy by the server administrator. The function of anonymous(anonymizing). It is possible to ensure that requests relayed through a proxy server or proxy does not contain the address of the client browser in order to protect the anonymity of the Internet on the web. There are Internet websites whose sole purpose of creating databases on attendance or on the habits of Internet users. This is the opinion poll to industrial espionage.

The safety function. The server can be a barrier between the Internet and the LAN or private firms. Some proxy software have security features, but nothing beats a firewall. Finally, a proxy can possibly replace a router and perform address translation NAT (Network Address Translation). Translation method of non-routable IP addresses into routable addresses and vice versa, which connects a private LAN or to multiple machines using only a cable modem or DSL. NAT actually does the routing of IP packets, ie it forwards packets received by a computer on the LAN to the Internet and vice versa, unlike a proxy server that opens a second connection. The configuration of the LAN machines merely states the address of the NAT as default router and DNS. Nat makes strict translation of addresses, but also the port forwarding and a mixture of both, address masquerading is a special form.

Re: Cache function in Proxy Server

A proxy server accepts a request for an Internet service (such as a Web page request) from a client. If it passes filtering necessities, the proxy server, supercilious it is also a cache server, looks in its local cache of formerly downloaded Web pages. If it finds the page, it returns it to the client without needing to forward the request to the Internet. If the page is not in the cache, the proxy server, acting as a client on behalf of the client, uses one of its individual IP addresses to command the page from the server out on the Internet. When the page is revisited, the proxy server describes it to the innovative request and forwards it on to the client. To the client, the proxy server is undetectable; all Internet requests and returned responses emerge to be unswervingly with the addressed Internet server. (The proxy is not quite invisible; its IP address has to be specified as a configuration option to the browser or additional protocol program.) An improvement of a proxy server is that its cache can serve all clients. If one or more Internet sites are recurrently requested, these are likely to be in the proxy's cache, which will progress client response time. In fact, there are extraordinary servers called cache servers. A proxy can also do logging. The functions of proxy, firewall, and caching can be in disconnecting server programs or combined in a single package. Unlike server programs can be in diverse computers. For example, a proxy server may in the identical machine with a firewall server or it may be on a separate server and forward requests through the firewall.
