    Port forwarding in Netgear DGN1000

I had just purchased a new netgear router. The model of the same is DGN 1000. Now I had done with the setup and all things went fine without issue. From connection to installation. My system got freezes at the starting due to the firewall. I want to forward a port for gaming in that. I am not aware about the configuration settings and need your help to fix the same. It can be a fault of the router as my friend was trying to configure emule on that and there was not better luck. What are the other things that I can try here to forward a port in the router. Thanks.

I am quiet sure this is not the fault of the router. In my case I had I entered in Port Forwarding / Port Triggering option. But as things were configured my wifi has stopped working. This had happened for both the laptop and for consoles. It is also correct that some users do to this for torrent clients but the same is blocked from the isp side. First you have to understand port forwarding. Then only you can understand all the settings of the router. Everything is mentioned in the router manual. You can have a look on the settings also.

When a computer is connected to the Internet then it is assigned with a unique IP address. This IP address then allows other computers to communicate the computer via Internet. So here if this connections are not authenticated then your firewall blocks this. Mostly users are trying to run pirated games online due to which they get easily kicked from the server. I will recommend you to check your firewall settings first. If you use NAT or firewall can be a bit more complicated than computers outside the local network to connect to computers on the network even if they have permission.

You can have a look on the gateway. Most of the gateways offer an option which is called port mapping. Port forwarding works involving traffic destined to a specific port to an internal network computer that can not otherwise access from the outside. You have to specify a number of the port which you want to unblock. Gateways only allow an assignment port-a machine that is, we can not run Web servers on multiple machines all in different local port. There are ways around this limitation, but require a lot of experience and powerful software appropriate.

If you want to forward all incoming traffic to a particular machine, you can use a longer version of port forwarding. This is called DMZ. It is a very inappropriate use of the term demilitarized zone or virtual server. A DMZ allows a single machine exposed to the outside world is accessible from outside as if on the Internet, but NAT is translating all traffic to that machine or from it. So there are other methods that you can try to configure your port forwarding settings.

It is right that a player on the network often encounter a problem where in some network games there is a requirement that incoming traffic go to a range of ports. The solution is a feature called triggers. When a local machine tries to connect to a trigger port, the gateway notices the outgoing request is reconfigured to allow incoming traffic back to a range of ports on the local machine. The triggers allow interactivity and network games.
