File shares access problem through VPN connection

We have a WIN2003 R2 installed with two NIC's , RAS is configured.
The problem is that, when a VPN user connects from a WIN XP client he can't see any file shares but when the client is WIN 7 everything works ok. Being connected from WIN XP i can ping the "servername".
    Thank you.

I suppose that you should not configure a client for a WINS server if you have no server providing WINS name resolution. I meant do you actually have a WINS server in your environment. If you do, make sure the VPN clients are being configured to use it. If you don't have a WINS server, you could consider making use of an lmhost file on the VPN client machines.
