Unable to browse websites while using HTTP, HTTPS,FTP ports

I have got a desktop system with a windows xp home edition as an operating system with 1.997 GHz processor. Since few days I am not able to connect to the internet while trying to connect with Http port 80 ,FTP port 21 and HTTPS 443. I have an updated Kaspersky Anti-virus and I run it daily for security reasons. My default web browser is Mozilla Firefox. My pals use Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and they suggest me to do the same. I diagnosed this issue when I was downloading Internet Explorer 8 but after downloading was done I lost my internet connection. This is really testing my temperament, please help me out.

If you think you should have got the earlier versions of Internet Explorer and then download the advance versions, then I am sorry to tell you that you are incorrect. If you cannot browse anything, you should try browsing with the Mozilla firefox and let me know. Please reply me your system configuration in descriptive manner and also tell me if you made any some hardware changes in network card or router or any other peripherals in your system.

Re: Unable to browse websites while using HTTP, HTTPS,FTP ports

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop system, windows xp home edition , Intel dual core processor, 2GB DDR RAM and 500 GB of internal HDD. As far as my changes are concerned I have not made any hardware changes in my system. The biggest mistake I did was that I had uninstalled the Mozilla Firefox after the Internet explorer was downloaded, Yes you are correct, I can browse the sites using the Mozilla Firefox but not with the internet explorer. I want my sites to be browsed in not one but both of the browsers, I think there is something wrong with the Firewall settings too.

I do not think that firewall settings are obstructing you from connecting the internet and browse the websites. but still if you are doubt full then check the internet settings, specially for those ports you mentioned i.e HTTP port 80, HTTPS port 443, FTP port 21. But if you ask my opinion it is not the firewall settings but the internet settings that is responsible for the internet issue you are facing currently . Open the browser, go to internet options, go to security, then go to Advance options and set everything to default. This will definitely resolve your internet issue.
