I know that the Microsoft's Broadband Networking hardware and software is configured with the IP. Have you tried to restore the system? I recommend you to go for the prior point of the restore to your Lime wire installation package. Also check though out of your system with the Anti-virus software, which is running at the latest definition. Also make sure that your system should not be affected by the hijacking of the IP, and other Mal ware.
you know you've made it big on here when you have your own imposter

Generally RPC server problem occurs for the DHCP Client or DNS Client. The RPC server will not begins in the Services.msc. I had a similar issue. And found that DHCP will not start it own. Go to Device manager from the properties of My computer, show the hidden devices and you will found that the AFD not work properly. Remove/ reinstall it with the CD of your operating system the AFD and type sfc /scannow in the command prompt. Hope it will help you.

I have the same issue, and follow the process that mentioned in the post for the thread. I checked with Norton Anti-virus 2004, by full scan the whole system. Also tried with the system restore and the SPY BOOT. After the entire test, I am sure that the issue is not for the virus's or any kind of spy ware. I think it is simply for the RPC server controlled file. Which may obviously for the other operating system. Any idea….

Re: RPC server:IP address is invalid in windows XP

There is a solution, try with unplug the modem from the computer for a while. It will restart the modem, and the functions should be normal after that. I did this solution with one of my issue; the lighting indicates that everything is running normal. And just happens that I mentioned. According to your post the RPC server will save the IP address, and no further problem regarding the server will be vanishing.

Here is the fix that I did when I was also faced this problem

    1. Go to Start, and click Run.

    2. type regedit, and hit ENTER.

    3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services.

    5. Right-click on the Winsock, and then Delete. click Yes, When you are prompted for deletion,

    6. Right-click Winsock2, and then Delete. click Yes, When you are confirm the deletion,
    7. Go to Control Panel, and then Network & Internet Connections.

    8. Go to Properties of Local Area Connection, then click on INSTALL.

    9. Select the Network Component , click on Protocol, and add that.

    10. Enter the path, c:\windows\inf or c:\winnt\inf, and then click on OK.
It will show the list of the available protocols, select the TCP/IP.
