Can I install MSE to clean up my already-infected computer

Hello friends i have recently purchased a new custom made desktop which is installed with windows 7. It came installed with an antivirus application whose trial period go over yesterday. Now i have the feeling that my system is infected with a virus so i need to purchase a new one I have heard about the Microsoft security Essential. Can anyone tell me Can I install MSE to clean up my already-infected computer.
